  1. It needs mentioning that the BYPASSNRO command is already non-trivial among consumer/non-technical users. This development is another part of a long game to normalize the thin-clientification of the PC. More reason to use answer files because they're a mainstay in professional/corporate IT and less susceptible to the turbulence of the consumer world. Silver lining is that it is good learning opportunity for those wanting a reason to get more adept at the deployment side of things.

  6. Unfortunately for regular users, that "will" comes increasingly from only corporate IT (as opposed to hobbyists - think something akin to FOSS community) I've personally noticed that we've been going from simply applying registry keys to now needing professional deployment tools (e.g. MS's WADK or third-party tools like DISMTools).

  9. They will, eventually. I've been repeatedly kicking myself for the last two weeks though because I passed up the chance of an RTX 4080 Super for £800 (new, from Amazon) a few months back. I decided to wait for the new ones to launch. Given the not-so-impressive improvements, scalping, and issues meaning I have to wait even longer, I really wish I had bought the 4080S. That said, I'm still unsure about the (lack of) VRAM on all but the stupidly unaffordable (to me) 5090 or 4090. My main use case would greatly benefit from more than 16GB; I bet it could even use 32GB quite easily and I know it could use 24. I was even contemplating the 24GB Radeon RTX 7900 XTX, despite the lower performance and potentially higher power consumption (means noisier cooling which I dislike) compared to the 5070Ti or 4080S. The 8GB GTX 1080 on a 10yo i7 CPU isn't cutting it any more. I'm desperate for an upgrade.

  11. Yeah. Right. Microsoft can make it as hard as they want for end users to avoid using a Microsoft Account. But there will always be an end user who finds a way to bypass that requirement. To Nadella and his sycopant minions, give it up already. Your abmormal fixation on telemetry -- essentially cyber-voyeurism -- is driving your company to ruins. We await your resignations.

The Quantum Apocalypse Is Coming. Be Very Afraid

A.I. and quantum computers will probably get rid of us pesky humans because we're a troublesome lot and of no use to them. In our history on this planet war and conquest have stained any civilized advances that we have made. We could have created a Utopia, but now it's a pipe dream....we're doomed. I just hope it doesn't happen before my football team wins the League this year.

  15. I watched Captain America Brave New World a couple of days ago, it was good, but not great, although it tried hard to be as exciting and entertaining as the first Captain America and Avengers movies. To be fair that is a hard act to follow and I doubt anyone (even Marvel) will be able to again produce such a series of high quality, entertaining movies with so many characters and interconnecting story lines that built up to a tremendous finale with the "Snap". 😺😺😺

Intel appoints Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO

just like AMD. AMD once was in big trouble as it hired so many shitty people. Then came in Lisa Su. She fired a bunch of them. Now AMD is in good shape. Hopefully Intel can come back.

  17. CoPilot is in a stage that could be called the construction stage, they need more people to use it in order to refine it, but as always the try to have it both ways learning and earning money at the same time. Also it is clear that they will steal the info you're looking for and how they are going to use this info later on, they didn't say.

  22. Hands up everyone outside of China who thinks this is accidental... What a surprise. Not. I have a good number of devices based on those chips, including both commercial and home-made kit. There's a very good reason I have never left the manufacturer's code on there, and my first step has always been a complete flash erase. Now I know what that reason is Edit: on reading it though, I wouldn't really call it a backdoor. Rather an additional and potentially more effective way to use the devices for evil. Makes me want to know what the instructions are and do some coding...

  27. No wonder hardly anyone still uses it with all kinds of crazy features like this. Small icons instead of part of website text could be used to make horisontal tabs into buttons too. Tab grouping idea could be copied from Windows7 taskbar button grouping - same thing - a long time ago. Mozilla is really down in the dumps these days.

How to easily create an unattended answer file for Windows 11

You are very late @kikuk because there is several way to install it (W11 since a very very very long time). Take a look about one software (such as rufus, ventoy etc) : https://nsaneforums.com/frontpage/other-apps/burning-imaging/ventoy/ https://nsaneforums.com/frontpage/other-apps/burning-imaging/rufus/ etc What about the edition ? Basically the "IoT Enterprise LTSC" doesn't require them at all ! Another example ? You had never read (heard) about the registry (or one command line etc) ? There is plenty articles on the internet (as example take a look about "OOBE\BYPASSNRO" (which is old). DIscover by the hasard today : "start ms-cxh:localonly" from one of those articles (extract from twitterX which is already saved in the case). To conclude, the answer is yes (and for the record, I don't use it because even the RTM 24H2 was buggy (read the section news)

Raspberry Pi launches PoE+ Injector for remote power supply

It's perhaps worth noting for the (low)power-obsessed like me, that PoE is surprisingly inefficient in terms of power use. I've looked a t a few things recently, since I have a lot of PoE powered stuff around here. The R-Pi PoE hats use a lot of power just to power themselves and buck the voltage; up to 50% more watts depending on the model than just powering the Pi from a PSU, if I recall correctly. Likewise, everything I found figures for was several watts higher for PoE than using a PSU, like my IP cameras, VOIP phones, TP-Link WiFi AP's, a small PoE-powered switch, and the fibre adapter on my Internet line. PoE is extremely convenient, but it comes at a significant efficiency cost for buck converting the much higher voltage it uses compared to a standard PSU. That's not considering the efficiency of the PoE source itself vs. the PSUs' efficiency (because they don't say and I haven't got around to measuring them). Overall I use perhaps an extra 20W of power for the PoE stuff around here that's on all the time. About £44 a year at current prices. Not huge, but something to consider I think if one is trying to save energy.

  34. I think they are (incorrectly and confusingly) using the % sign simply to mean they are showing a ratio* (FPS / Watt or whatever), rather than a single unit measurement. I've seen that elsewhere. If you ignore the % symbol in the graphs it does make sense like you say (the % differences they describe in the text match the relative values in the charts if you use the values and ignore the % symbol). *Edit: or they might have just got carried away with the % key.

  40. It was only a matter of time before all these internet-connected things were exploited for evil, especially those devices (most of them) that rely on calling home to some server (or do so surreptitiously anyway). Great advice and what I've done from the start, but I'm a network nerd. My wife, for example, while being an intelligent professional with more letters after her name than me, wouldn't have a clue what to do. Even a standard firewall as everyone has in their home routers along with NAT (the great protector) is of no use whatsoever when a device needs to call out, and if it's allowed to talk to other devices on your LAN to be used as a jump point... (Cue Hudson...) game over man; game over! Likewise when people decide it's convenient to see their cameras on their phones from the pub or whatever. Even if the device and its server can be fully trusted, we here all know how often legitimate servers get hacked for malicious purposes.

  41. I think they need better PR. Personally I don't mind seaweed though; I use a fair bit here from just adding it in slivers through mixed salad, rice, noodle, or egg fu yung, or grinding the un-rehydrated strands to use as thickener or umami flavouring in cooking or sprinkled condiments. Make my own fish floss too - you'll get the best Chinese restaurant style crispy seaweed* with tasty sprinkles ever in my house, and never have to wish there was more of that tasty sprinkled goodness (restaurants always seem to cheap out on that and give you a teaspoon of it). Nice to see seaweed getting some attention; hope they don't over-harvest it like they did the fish. *crispy seaweed, despite the name and being in this thread, is not made from seaweed and never was. It's made from finely shredded spring greens (dark green cabbagey leaves). It's called that for the tourists. :groans:

Hundreds of your Warner Bros DVDs probably don’t work anymore

Hi, just some idea... if I was you I would get the missing bits and bytes ( I don´t want to discuss, where you will get it from and actually think it´s against the board rules, no? . I just trust you can do it ) and save it on a hard drive. Now, collectors might not like hand-written CD´s / DVD´s, but there is a solution as well if this is your hobby and you wanna spend some money. The screenshot I attached is just to show you it does exist, I dont know if Epson is good or which machine is best, you have to research yoursel! So you can buy a CD / DVD printer. Maybe there is a company which will do that for you in your area as well. (online or locally). Another possibility is to reach out to forums and ask. I can guarantee you, there will be always someone who bought a professional DVD printer, even when it was 3K.... maybe they will print you some for a small fee... If I had a huge DVD collection, I would backup every single medium digitally, store it with WinRar and give it a good amount of recovery data (I would not select compress, I would just do store option). Put the rotten DVD´s in a case and the backup ones in my original cases, aka collection. If everything is optimal, you can´t even see the difference between original and backup, only if you look at the back side the laser reads from. This is what I would do, if I had the money and passion for it. Good luck!

  45. those two are in different areas. Teams is a messaging tool within a company. skype is more a personal messenger. It's difficult to add an outsider to your company teams. So I have to add another persoanl account in Teams? Plus Team is quite resource heavy. Well MS never makes good decisions after win7.
