tipo
i searched for 2 hours now and couldn`t find anything that would really help me. my problem is: my hard drive has 2 partitions (C,D). right now i am using windows xp.it is installed on the C drive. D drive has my personal stuff(music pictures, movies). i want to format C drive and install ubuntu. i don`t want to install it alongside xp. i don`t want to format D drive. just leave it untouched. how can i do this? majithia23
just wonder , did you check the official install guide ---- ubuntu installation guide .it should serve the purpose ....edit -- the last time i tried installing ubuntu was with wubi installer .but it failed , and the reason i found was that it doesnt support Hard Drives of Dynamic nature .it requris Basic type HD partition . and i have no idea what these are .... and then i tried it via live USB installer , but then again ,it failed .failed not in installation but in identifying my partitions accurately .though my HD is 3 partitioned , but it identified only two .C= as windows directory and the rest all as one partition ( even though it is partitioned into two . )must be because of that Basic and Dynamic Types ...dont know ...if any one can clarify , please let me know more ... but yes i do remember , there was an option during installation , which said format this partition and install Ubuntu on it ...see for it ...( ps - in the end , i just made a live Ubuntu usb until my new Windows install and plug it in when ever i feel like ... )
kurtcobain
Just follow the installation wizard. That's easy.
