Firewall ?

vfusion

Recommended Posts

Just bought a new ASUS notebook and managed to get a 1-year Kaspersky Anti Virus 2012 for free.

Any suggestion / advice for a Firewall which would not 'fight' with KAV 2012 ?

BTW, the OS is Windows 7 PRO 64-Bit.

Thanks.

Was actually seeking advice from those with experiences; i.e firewalls which have compatabilty issues with KAV 2012, before installation to system.

Anyway, downloaded Outpost PRO v7 .5.1 (x64) from this forum, but almost 50% of the serials does not work, so I gave up & uninstalled.

Downloaded Outpost 6.5 Free, but not compatable with x64 system.

For the time being, will stick with Windows Firewall.

Thanks.

Almost any firewall will work ok with Kasp AV as long as it is strictly a fw with no other real time protection. Comodo is great just be sure to deactivate the full time protection...think they call it 'D+' or something. The free version of Adaware is also good...again, deactivate its full time protection. Or...maybe just switch to Kasp Internet Security that has it's own built in fw...there is a free 90 day trail if your interested. Failing all that, you can just use Windows 7's built in fw as mentioned above. ;)

If you are using MS Security Essentials or KAV 2012 (without Firewall), it's difficult to control what calls out with the default Windows Firewall.

One of my application would always return to trial after cracking. These unwarranted call-outs would also cause wasted bandwidth, etc.....

Currently, trying out Windows Firewall Control with the default firewall and I have better control now as it enables me to see and to allow/block what calls out.

Settings: Medium Filtering & Learning Mode.

@ anuraag, thanks for the link

Does KAV have HIPS/HIDS in place?.. one mention is using Tenable Nessus - Home Feed to see just how vulnerable the system is and where.. Would be a good idea after updating it and while its fresh, then once again after installations and so on..
