ok so ive tried

ImTOO video converter pro

xilisoft converter pro

and they make my computer crash, NO blue screen just shuts it down. and ruins my converting stage

are there any converters that WILL NOT make my computer crash like so?

ive use the one called "videora" but that one is huge and the download just for the program takes til the next ice age to download. it takes ages as well to convert

ive got 6 gigs of ram and i dont usually run any resource hog apps while converting.

i also have tried the converter built in DVDfab and its sooooo SLLLOOOOOWWWW lol

what programs can i use to convert my videos for ipod touch without makin my computer crash?

Video transcoding is not fast. But is also not supposed to crash. Your CPU might become overheated and crash from what I understand. Monitor the temps with AIDA64 or something. If the temps are high, clean the cooler and reseat it with fresh thermal compound, or buy a new cooler. The apps you tried are OK, they're not at fault your PC crashes.

You can speed up the transcoding (in some programs) if you have a decent nvidia card with CUDA - the faster, the better. The quality might suffer a little, but you won't see that on the ipod.

Laptops are EXTREMELY sensitive to this kind of overheating and very prone to crashes after prolonged/intensive use. They also can be cleaned though it's obviously a little more difficult.

There are also special laptop coolers that could be effective. Just search for laptop cooler, notebook cooler etc.

If your video converter is using NVIDIA's CUDA, try turning off that option. That way the encoding will be slower but not stress your video hardware.
