beto
Hi allAfter installing windows 7 x64 SP1 (Service pack only), System properties box/window won't open. As usual I right click on "Computer" - select "Properties" but nothing happens. There is a "Properties" option in right click menu, but it doesn't open anything. There are other options I can not change like some Taskbar Properties options, I can install but when I click on Controll Panel -unisntall a program - nothing happens..... It looks like my Administrator account is kind of "limited". I double checked and it IS a Admin account. Then I enabled Hiden Adminstrator account using windows 7 DVD Command Prompt. Still have exactly the same proplems as with my account. Laptop came with Windows 7 Home premium preinstalled OEM Asus. Its a genuine copy straight from the manufacturer. I never reinstalled windows 7. I didn't have to, just working fine since always untill....Sp1 installSp1 exe file downloaded from microsofttried sfc /scannow but no successAnyone can HELP Please laptop Asus M60j Win 7 Home Premium x64I7 720M4 Gb Ram

beto
All available restore points are post sp1. there is no restore point before sp1. All of the date 15 August 2011. Nothing before that
HX1
Hit the Windows Key on the Keyboard.. Then type Disk Cleanup.. Open that, scan your drive... Then select 'Cleanup System Files'.. it will scan again.. See if it shows that you have about 500 MB Service Pack Files.. if ti does then its actually installed.. and hopefully you haven't deleted them...Have you tried running a Microsoft/Windows Update? It could solve the issue as well.. by adding other necessary components.. I would also check and see if you can open the Event Viewer and a few others like gpedit.msc.. and see if you are experiencing any problems there.. This could mean that the .NET Framework is corrupted n some way as well..
beto
@ HX1I see in disk cleanup box after scan smth like - service pack backup files 920 mbI guess they are there (hope so). I didn't do any cleanup or deletion after installing SP1. But Why wouldn't it uninstall using command prompt? Microsoft/Windows Update dosn't work. I mean it tries to lauch but apdate window disappears soon and nothing happensThanks

HX1
If your uninstalling right now let it finish.. and reboot... BUT I would have check things out first to see if any problems had been eradicated.. Personally I would have used Microsoft Update to complete all updates and get the SP1 in the chain of updates as intended for existing installations.. Personally I would have used Microsoft Update to complete all updates and get the SP1 in the chain of updates as intended for existing installations..Windows update disappeared as soon as it appeared. I was lucky enought to uninstall sp1. But the problem is still there. With or without sp1 now I have the same issues, which I didn't have before installing it. WU does not work. I click on it and notthing happens.Any idea what to do next?
unknownasphyxiated
then if un and re install sp1 doesn't work, try do a repair install
HX1
Try to open your Event Viewer from the Start Menu Search and see if it is able to start and run.. IF not your Framework is more than likely cratered and you may just have to reinstall the OS to repair.. some area of the OS.. Sounds a bit off though for it to be that.. Could also lend some info on problems and malfunctioning areas or services causing the problem..
HX1
I found an article that stated with some Video Card drivers on Vista systems this exact same issue occurred.. Here is a workaround:1) Launch services.msc from a run command2) Find the SLUNotify service & stop it3) Find the Software Licensing service & stop it (it may say that ReadyBoost needs that service to run; stop it anyway)4) Restart both services, starting with Software LicensingThat's all. No reboot needed. Kudos to Toby at the nVidia forumsAlsoI had this problem a few days ago, and then it fixed itself somehow - I just had the same problem again a few minutes ago - everything disappeared not only from my Control Panel, but the Microsoft Games in Games Explorer. I'm running 64bit Vista.I opened up Task Manager and saw that there were two instances of explorer.exe running, one in 32bit and one in 64bit. I ended the 32bit version, and everything came back onto the screen.AND also mention of making sure your DirectX versions are up to date..This would lead me to believe it could be another issue all together... but won't know until it is actually fixed.. :P
