IPFilter and PeerBlock at the same time?

Does it make sense to run ipfilter downloader (mara) and peer block at the same time while downloading with uTorrent?

I'm running both ipfilter downloader (mara) and Peer Block at the same time while downloading using uTorrent.....to be safe because my ISP sent me a warning letter.

Before the letter I wasn't using any of these apps. :frusty: stupid me..

Also, download speed for most torrents in uTorrent has slowed down alot while running both these apps in the background.

Thanks in advance

Wow .. okay this Topic has really been addressed seemingly a thousand times.. LOL..

IMO.. No it does not make sense to run both at the same time and if your going to run one.. run one you can configure and will cover your whole system... and they are used for much more than what you will be.. so something to keep in mind about the broader function of protection and filtering given through these PeerBlock..

When you ask about running both apps what do you mean? Keeping mara ip filter loaded in memory does nothing, it's just a download tool. Once you download the ipfilter list the program's task is over and you can close it. The ipfilter.dat file is downloaded to uTorrent's application data folder and the list is used automatically by uTorrent and uTorrent alone. Ofcourse you can copy the ipfilter.dat to any p2p programs that can use an ipfilter.dat filter but for the default working's of mara's ipfilter downloader the ipfilter is placed for uTorrent alone.

In short if the only p2p program you use is uTorrent then you can use mara's ipfilter downloader alone. But given your situation you may be better off using peerblock because that runs all the time in the background and should automatically update their list and it will protect your entire system. Can't take any chances because those Mafia authorities will bully you. Be sure to force protocol obfuscation in uTorrent options and use a random port too.

I only use ipfilter.dat method though, I update it manually every few weeks.

I don't take any chances. I use peerblock 1.1 + v617 DEV, Peershield, ipfilter, and BTGuard proxy.

I've been torrenting over 8 years now, a few of those quite heavily if you get me. Always used PeerGaudian/Peerbloclk and never a single isp/dmca letter or sever host hassle..

If you live in USA then more is better, can't be too careful. Those Mafia corporations are just waiting to bully citizens. One mistake could lead you to jail or bankruptcy over a stupid song. They call it democracy I think, but it's really corporate dictatorship and China is laughing more and more as censorship overtakes USA.
