Zeus_Hunt Posted December 6, 2007 Share Posted December 6, 2007 Researchers at Virus Bulletin have released the results of the latest VB100 computer security test, highlighting failures at a number of leading security vendors.Products from Sophos, Trend Micro and Kaspersky were among those that failed to protect fully against a collection of outdated viruses.The December edition of the VB100 test subjected security software to 100 Windows 2000 viruses collected from labs and websites."It was a shock and a concern to see such a poor performance from so many products in this latest round of testing," said John Hawes, a technical consultant at Virus Bulletin."It is particularly disappointing to see so many major products missing significant real-world threats."In order to pass the test, vendors needed to identify 100 malware samples as well as avoid reporting false positives on clean samples.Kaspersky failed the test by missing one virus from the list, while Sophos missed eight. Trend Micro missed four virus samples, failing VB100 certification for the fourth time in five tests.Trend Micro products had passed 13 consecutive VB100 tests. The company declined to comment on the results.Other notable security products failing the VB100 test included PC Tools' Spyware Doctor, which recorded two false positives, and Norman Virus Control, which missed 14 samples and recorded six false positives. shought Posted December 6, 2007 Share Posted December 6, 2007 I'm glad ESET passed the test, i think overall they have the best test results. But i'm no expert so can't be sure. Since Kaspersky hasn't had a stable version as of yet since 7.0.0.125. Although I was forced to do a reboot from today about virus database so they may have just updated there detection status. I stopped doing that mainly because I started working on the home computer and the Adobe products I use need stability or I could lose hrs of valuable work, and time is money. I also got to know a part of the community on the beta forums and also a part of the developers. The product is NOT perfect, but... if you know how to use it, and I mainly speak of PDM - proactive defense, you are almost invulnerable. To the average user, it can be irritating, because of the security popups that may be numerous at times. If you learn how to use it, you will know almost everything that's going on in your system, undo the changes done by apps, protect the registry... and many more. dllhost Posted December 10, 2007 Share Posted December 10, 2007 i have been using it and i like it.now i have to find a cheap dealer so i can afford it after the trial is up. thanksTru U.K shop of Kaspersky - they have 50% discount so it's really cheap now ;)toyo u r right - there is many pop-up's but I suppose there isn't was, we, and will be any av solution which will be "knowing" which apps are safe and the changes to registry are safe and doesn't need to ask user.And about lates VB100 test - Kaspersky missed just one virus - it's not so much and to be honest most viruses will not "enter" ur pc coz they will be detected by www scanning engine and blocked even before u see loaded page :DCheerz ! As my father also needed one for his PC, we basically paid half price each.My serial is due to expire in the first week of January, but even if the promotion stated above (50%) is no longer in use (I could order it now and still claim the discount), I've found it would be cheaper to update the normal way.
