i would greatly appreciate it if you can direct me to a program where i can identify my chipsets and Audio and video Drivers that i need....thanks....

AIDA64 will identify most of them.. Have you tried Microsoft Update?.. or do you not have a Network Card Driver? SIS I hate I have seen a couple of these for systems.. come with some extra crap and the one I was dealing with would not work proper;y unless it was using a package which was several years old.. and I had to search awhile to find it..

I do not know if this is proper to do, but I am going to refer you to a program

that helped me, offered here at nsane....

Driver Genius

Follow the instructions closely. I would think that you will probably

only need to run it once. It helped me out a great deal.

There is also another method : Manually Identifying The Unknown Devices

To manually identify the devices we have to find out the device instance ID which has two parts, one is the vendor ID and the second is Device ID.

Once we have got the vendor ID and identified the device ID, we can easily find the drivers for our device.

To find the device instance ID go to Device Manager –> Right click the unknown device –> Properties –> Details.

Now from the drop down menu select Device Instance Path (Windows Vista)/ Device Instance ID (Windows XP)

It will give you a string value which contains the vendor ID and the Device ID. The string is like this:

HDAUDIOFUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_5045&SUBSYS_103C30D5&REV_10014&2675E3A&0&0002

( this is an example , on your comp. the text will be different )

Where red is the Vendor ID and green is the Device ID. Note down both of them.

Once you have the Vendor ID and the device ID, you can go to the following websites and find out the vendor and device name and search for its drivers.

http://www.pcidatabase.com/

http://www.pcisig.com/membership/vid_search/

http://pciids.sourceforge.net/

You can also download PCI Utilities ( http://mj.ucw.cz/pciutils.html ) which displays the Vendors and devices in human readable format instead of the alphanumeric code characters.

Now after all that work you can enjoy your comp. B)

PS : if on the sites indicated you do not find your `unknown devices` you can still search on Google keeping the main ideea explained above . Good luck !

Is there a a GUI or a pre-compiled version of it?

Yes there is a portable version of `Unknown Devices` (http://www.halfdone.com/ukd/) which has the last released vers.1.4.20 (beta) (June 2, 2007)

- download : http://www.halfdone.com/ukd/UKD_14-20_Beta.zip (Zip file, no install. Includes the program itself and the pcidevs.txt file)

halfdone : let me know if you have any issues at [email protected] , or at http://forums.halfdone.com/ .

The beta version works with Win95, 98, 98se, 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista.

This progr. can be found also on MajorGeeks : http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3908
