zeon22
Install Incompatible extensions in Firefox 5{Method 2} 100% workingHere we will install Aardvark firefox addon using this method so we will use it as the example case. But essentially it works with any addon.1) Open firefox and go to the mozilla firefox addon website.Search for your addon using the search bar.2) Your addon will be displayed with an grey cololored “Add to Firefox” button instead of green as “it is incompatible with firefox 5.0″3) Right click on this button and choose “Save link as..” option. It will be saved as a .xpi file. Aardwark addon file name is “addon-4111-latest.xpi” for example.4) Open this .xpi file with Winzip or Winrar or any unzip utility(or just drag and drop in it). You will see a file “install.rdf” in the zipped folder. Now select this file and extract it to your desktop.5) Open “install.rdf” in wordpad(or notepad) or any text editor.Search for a line “<em:maxVersion>3.6.*</em:maxVersion>“3.6 in this line represent the maximum version of firefox up to which this addon (Aardvark in our case) is compatible. In your “install.rdf” file it may be some other value less than 5.0.6) Change this value from ‘3.6.* ‘ to ‘ 5.0.* ‘Save the file again by clicking on save button. Now drag this file again to the .xpi archive. Overwrite the existing “install.rdf” with your modified “install.rdf”.Now go to firefox 5.0 and open Addon manager. Click on the settings button and choose “Install Addon from file…”. Choose the .xpi file you modified and you will see the familiar firefox addon install window.7) Install the addon and restart the firefox.Enjoy your incompatible firefox addons without a glitch!!I have just installed many addons using this process.I know its a bit lengthy but it works 100% too!!!Orignal Source
R0H1T
You don't have to drag/drop or extract the rdf file, just double click the file & open it with a text editor(notepad/wordpad) then bump the maxversion number to your current build(beta/aurora/nightly) & save the archive(update file) with the modified rdf. You'll have to remember though that if the addon hasn't been updated recently to work with firefox 4 it won't work with newer versions & even if you force compatibility by the above posted method the addon may not work properly if at all. A better way would be to use addon.compatibility check(disable it) in about:config since the browser won't install any addon which was not designed for the given version/build. RobrPatty
Just add "compatibility reporter" addon and restart firefox. Then all your addons will work.
