HX1 Posted July 4, 2011 Share Posted July 4, 2011 I like VisiPics for images you set it up right and it does wonders for removing duplicate images.. Music can be a problem even when using a scanner to find duplicate files because of transcoding and quality .. those are really better of using the basic listing filters to categorize what you want to keep and get rid of.. As far as the rest of it is concerned, there are quite a few tools out there inside other utilities..( WinASO, WIndows 7 Manager, and Ccleaner I believe .. ) BUT I like to use DiskSpaceFan.. The Pro version though is the only one that will remove duplicates for you...Personally though I would say be careful because some of these tools can remove the wrong files if your not careful.. and more than you would want to.. HX1 Posted July 4, 2011 Share Posted July 4, 2011 If it is simply your Media Library which is at fault you need to remove your media player files that control the library database.. there is a tutorial online.. If you check your settings however in WMP.. you will notice that it will be set to either delete from the drive and your library or just your library.. I would double check to make sure the files are actually there and then either change the settings or delete them manually... and still delete the database file in your profile for it... and start fresh..This type of problem can come from many directions.. AND you also may want to check for other shares.. in the Public folder and make sure your not picking up Shared Libraries from other computers on your network.. Windows & is setup to do it by default..EDIT: This should be the location of the files .. at C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player I get rid of everything but two folders ArtCache and SyncLists... after that restart WMP 12 ( it has to be closed for this to work properly... ) and your database shoudl rebuild or your can indicate where you have moved your files... if you have moved them or the places to include.. HX1 Posted July 13, 2011 Share Posted July 13, 2011 The files I mentioned are only databases.. or like 'lists' of data ( not actual files yet WMP will delete the target files if indicated inthe settings this why you have the options to do both - because of the databases ) that WMP builds of the files that it finds when it scans or monitors a folder which you have indicated in the settings.. SO.. basically you cut out all of the 'deleting one by one' and trying to figure out which file is the best quality.. ( which is easier done by viewing the files directly ) Say for instance you have two files of the same song.. and one is lower quality because it was transcoded for a media device such as an iPod.. and the original is better quality... you can physically delete the file.. but unless the database is deleted or updated... the listing of the file and its data will remain in the library in some cases...SO .. ( not to confuse you .. :P ) Once you have checked for real duplicates and cleaned your music library physically.. THEN before you start WMP.. delete the database files mentioned and allow WMP to rescan and add those folders to your library again.. this time without duplicates if added correctly... and properly reorganized.. HX1 Posted August 1, 2011 Share Posted August 1, 2011 Usually those go away after it finishes building the database and updating the Library.. could be in the settings.. and I also suggest using Winamp.. what I use for the most part.. Media Player Classic for Vids.. or SPlayer.. Corel WinDVD is usually the best quality for video however if your system isn't too old the current version will work..
