have you tested it out? from the above and from this link, it seems to me it doesn't offer realtime protection. this makes it only as effective as something like clamwin but not as effective as those antiviruses that offer realtime protection

That is a classic example of doublespeak. Saying that it has real time protection and then saying it's on demand; that overall statement doesn't make any clear sense and thus it causes me to not trust it. It's openly telling people that if they have an open connection to the internet that it can not be trusted as a good security solution (in less incriminating self admissions of course). Is it worth noting that there is no US version?

no i'm not saying you're trying to fool anyone. all i said was the english version is from 2009 which does not have realtime protection, it hasn't been updated to 2011. the Brazilian and Romanian languages have 2011 version available which does have realtime protection available.

Im not saying it was fake, I'm just saying that the information was not easy to understand because it said two different things (doublespeak) so the information was obfusticated. Please note this also, I don't think that the world begins and ends with me. Hi, i was a little busy last two days and I couldn`t manage to finish testing BitDefender Free . Till this moment my conclusion is that :

- the english and german version of BitDefender Free Edition are version 2009 and only scanner on demand

- the italian and brasilian vers. of BitDefender Free are version 2010 , offer real time protection - but when you install it it asks you to update / after update it says that the key is obsollete and you need to register ( to a commercial vers. of BD ) - so neither these can`t be used proper.

- so the last and only version that is really 2011 is BitDefender Free Edition in romanian that offers real time protection for one year (after free registration - requires e-mail adress) .

Considering that I have to admit that BitDefender Free Edition 2011 can`t be put on the front-page due to its limited utility

( offers real time protection only in romanian , italian and portuguese-brasilian language ) . :frusty:

Edit 04 July 2011 : I didn`t find a way to change BDFree in english or an english installer ... so I started a new topic here on Software [Archive] with screenshots to prove that BDFree has real time protection ; unfortunately that installer is v.2010 and in italian language (to me it seems quite easy to understand - there are also screenshots) :sneaky:

Lite : Both applications are currently under consideration and the final outcome will be decided soon.

Please take in consideration only Malware Defender .
