Companies allowed to archive 7 years of your Facebook life, sell info

Think that uploading those drunken photos from the recent party to Facebook are a good idea? Think again. It appears that the Federal Trade Commission is now allowed to keep anything you posted publicly to Facebook/Twitter/Flickr/anywhere else for up to seven years before it must be destroyed.

Forbes reports that the FTC have approved a start up company that monitors employees' internet presence, named "Social Intelligence Corporation." The company scours the internet for information about individuals, and will look at information that is public about a user, and provide it to potential employers upon request. It's worth noting that most employers will probably try and look you up online, but probably not to this level.

Forbes tested this by requesting a report from the company, and even though the user hid most of their details, they still managed to dig up some dirt because the user is a member of a public group that "leans towards racism" (pictured above). In another test, they found that a user had been attempting to buy Oxycontin and Marijuana on Craigslist and reported this to the employer (pictured below).

Up until today, it wasn't clear if this practice was entirely legal, but now that the FCC has approved it, the company is free to do as it pleases. Social Intelligence offers the services they provide to any company, and actually creates entire files on individuals, however they claim that they only use the databases as a "chain of custody" in case it's ever needed for legal reasons, and when they are approached by a company they will run a new search and base the report on current data rather than past.

Even then, the Social Intelligence COO, Geoffrey Andrews says that "[social Intelligence] stores records for up to 7 years as long as those records haven’t been disputed," but adds that "If a record is disputed and changed then we delete the disputed record and store the new record when appropriate."

The best bet you have against a company like this is to lock down your Facebook profile and be careful what you tweet, share or blog about, because it could come back to bite you. Even small things such as "liking" an article or passing on one are included in this kind of information, so it's best to watch every activity performed online.

About Social Intelligence: hope LulzSec or other net lunatics brings their business down so they can never intrude in people's lives and intimate desires.

I deleted my Facebook (with the permanant delete method) a long time ago. After I had heard on the Alex Jones show about this stuff (it's been a while now) I decided to get rid of my account. Of course the data is never truly deleted and that sorta sucks...oh well.

I (partially) disagree with a lot of your (and InfoWars') posts, but I have to say I hear you on this one.

Facebook is a large threat to everyone's privacy and people should be aware of that.

I still have a Facebook account though. I'm aware of the threat to my privacy, but I don't value my privacy that much... Anything my friends can see on Facebook other people can see as well (this includes companies; I don't care if they get anonymized statistical data about the population of my country or the people that go to the same university as I do. I wouldn't even care if they'd get data specific to me...).

And of course, if large corporations use Facebook for data so will the CIA...

Yeah.. you know sometimes a lot of this stuff gets spun out.. way over the edge.. in reality.. its that airheaded positive thing that goes on when your thinking " Oh cool.. yeah I want get an account .. " and the following things that ensue.. that people really miss when they are going on about their digital lives... I think some are right to it to fill that emotional whole they feel they need compensation in...or an outlet for their defunct developmental characteristics.. for some..Really online account are like making collages about yourself which your going to post up in public places all over.. People are going to have access to them and see everything...

I quit social networking truthfully.. years ago.. I think my first thing was Yahoe.. but it all seemed to be about the same thing.. and unless yo actually had friends who had a computer then it was pointless else your thrown out there talking to people all the way around the planet.. but it quickly became a let down in many ways.. Then it started to become commercialized in so many ways it would make you sick.. It seemed to all be hit and run.. not really much more than a time bandit.. in which your lulled into thinking that these people actually even give a damn about you.. when truthfully they are there for something else entirely.. possibly even for the 'fan mail' and whore-train... maybe some referral points bonuses or whatever else fixation they have achieved.. Then you get the news and the big scare of being murdered for online usage.. that turns it all superficial.. starts a separatist view.. mix that with an addiction to be online... and the opportunity for marketing ... and people will go broke online... LOL... Maybe even gamble away their bank accounts.. or become interested in racking up those ad-click points for companies.. While they enjoy all of this crap.. the data is flying.. companies try to make your personal life their business when you aren't even on the clock.. even when they can't openly use it... They snoop.. and things change so to speak... not to mention the outlet and birthplace of so many interpersonal problems for those with socially unacceptable underdeveloped issues.. such as stalking or obsessions which become unhealthy... Its like walking out the front door and realizing that your date has been watching you all night long... seeing if your online and lying to them about going to sleep.. or creating other accounts to see if you hidden from them and cheating.. or this and that... You can imagine how many possibilities there are out there to feed these issues.. an the world you could be walking into...

I was always the type of guy that.. when I walk out of the building.. and clock-out or go home.. its over right there.. and anything that was going on.. if I wanted to go home and twist my hair up, throw on another outfit .. stand at the top of a club or be a VIP at an Event.... to do my thing then I would... Rather it was to DJ, display art, or just 'exist on whole 'nother level..' On Monday I would put the slacks and business casual back on.. conservative hair ..back down and back to the grind.. All of it my business.. who I am with.. 'what beneficial relationships may be going on between several people'...where I work... where I live.. my phone number... things that I like... people I love.. and things I appreciate... what makes me happy... my business affiliations... my home town.. school.. and my income.... All of that was my business and you never dare shared the information.. as well as what you last read or are looking at ..at the time.. It is like living in a damn laboratory.. LOL... Not to mention it says nothing of risk assessment or anything else.. simply says someone is trying to live their life here ... unless they are to go home to a padded room and recite the numbers for the day over and over again until they take the syringe full of Thorazine to get sleep for tomorrow.. where they stumble over themselves to get their the next day for fear of w/e.. but on the verge of complete break-down for no reason or balance.. not to speak of a souless blank..

All of it makes sense in a way.. you know other than this the only immediate information that would be had by anyone would by those who are buying things online.. that would be what governed investments and business direction.... services offered.... There are many things impacted by all of this... some good some bad.. and in some cases..LOL.. It's not going to matter what they have.. they will get it wrong .. and possibly even just say they used it to get what they want in the end anyway.. :lmao:

These places may have some use however.. its should really be up front.. there is just so much chatter these days.. people never stop talking... yet they wind up saying absolutely nothing at all... or just fold back on themselves in some infinite loop... Odd to me how some of this has effected things.. and how some things while generating income for some.. has actually impacted people in so many ways...

If you do use social networking, use SSL encryption when available. On facebook I removed my profile picture, removed all apps and likes and locked down the profile to only allow friends and myself to everything. If you do not do this you will be raped and pillaged by networks out to seek gain and eventually full control of the internet. If everybody locks down their profile they will have no choce but to choose a new method of attack and waste millions of dollars trying to steal your info which i pray will be safe. Also protect yourself from infected facebook contacts etc, if they send you malware link they are infected, delete them and add them when they are safe. also remove all personal information, phone numbers, instant messaging addresses and all notifications.

As for the guy ripping on infowars, I also find the opinions shared on the website to be stupid as they have no facts. Just as everything shared is taken for what it is, research yourself on everything they say, don't assume anything is right just because they said it. Test and try everything.
