Tweety.Abd
Hello,I ran the full scan today, and my KIS 2012 detected a hidden suspicious file under the name of "Windows:nlsPreferences". Initially, it told me that a reboot would do the work. I rebooted and now it asks me to reboot every time I boot up my computer and it's getting on my nerves. I'm not sure why KIS 2012 is such a cumber-stone to use. First I had the problems with the pop ups, and then this. I have no idea how people manage to get along with KIS2012. It's too disappointing to me.
toyo
How, in the world, did you got this? http://www.latest-virus.com/hiddenobject-multi-generic-1726
johndoe
It's not a Kaspersky issue at all!The NLS apparently stands for "Nalpeiron Licensing Service". You must recently have installed a program (apparently one person that got it had installed AlienSkin Eye Candy 6.0) that included/installed this service. Its a service that starts at system startup. What you can do is trace which program you recently installed that could have installed this service. If its not an essential program, get rid of it. If it is a program you cannot live without, then what you can do is open services.msc and set the Nalpeiron Licensing Service to manual or disabled. Then manually start the service prior to loading up the program it is associated with and stop the service after you're done using the program. There's not a lot of information about the NLS service, what it does or whether it is malicious or not although from its name it doesn't sound like it. All of the above information was gleaned through Google. I personally have had zero personal experience with the NLS issue.

johndoe
there's apparently another company called Nik Software which is incorporating this into their programs, Viveza 2 and silver pro 2 (no idea what the programs are or what they do)
Tweety.Abd
First of all, thank you John and Toyo for your assistance. Yes as I do use Alien Skin Suite, OnOne Suite, and also Nik Plug-In bundle. They are Photoshop plug ins. I didn't know they were related to Nalpeiron Licensing Service. Either ways. I'm just going to set them on manual on services, as you've mentioned. Thank you so much for you help John and Toyo :) @ Toyo: I managed to make Kaspersky function like Norton finally :D No pop ups and it just notifies me when it's deleted a virus, and no disinfection-reboot crap either :D
johndoe
it's a pleasure :) do provide feedback if the problem disappears once you set it to manual. thxoh and by the way, apparently if you uninstall those programs that installed the service in the first place, the NLS service doesn't get uninstalled. nice isn't it! toyo
I managed to make Kaspersky function like Norton finally :D No pop ups and it just notifies me when it's deleted a virusUsing it this way will probably make KIS less functional. The popups will mostly go away once you have KIS installed for a longer while, as they will appear only for new applications (of course, this depends on how you set things up).KIS will also lock/quarantine some trustful apps this way. But in the end, it's your PC, so whatever makes you happy...

But in the end, it's your PC, so whatever makes you happy...I still get pop ups about Trusting applications. The only pop ups I don't get now are "Neutralize Threats", and the other pop up asking me to delete, quarantine, and disinfect. Instead, I've configured my Kaspersky to disinfect/delete the malware automatically and notifying me only on failure/successful removal of the malware. I tested it with EICAR, and I had positive results. :) Will that setting too compromise my security?
toyo
It will delete false positives (they happen, especially when you are using keygens and patches ;) ) or will not even allow you to download these.I dunno what files you mess around with, but I usually see the Neutralise dialogue only once every few months (or even more)... Maxhedroom
See this: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=172937Good grief...can't believe it delted Norton. Heh...guess we know what that reboot was all about. VM or not, my in-built sense of 'oh noes' would make it inherently hard for me to unleash such evil upon a PC..lol It did remind of the overlooked role that a a third party scanner plays in pc protection. I already use MWB for this but now I may use Hitman as well...too bad there's no 64bit 'cure' for the Pro version yet. :glare:edit: Looks like shajt to the rescue once again...64bit crack now available! :dance2:
