The new accelerated release schedule Mozilla is using for Firefox development will see the next version of Firefox, Firefox 6, go into beta about two weeks following Firefox 5's release. Almost three months following Firefox 4's The new release looks and runs very similar to Firefox 4, but it has a few changes under the hood. The official changelog will be made available here. RadioActive
Any news on when/if they'll make a native x64 (Windows) release?Edit: I installed it then uninstalled it 30 secs later since (as usual) half my addons were deemed incompatible and I had no intention of force-enabling them, I'm gonna stick with 4.x for now.Maybe when they release version 7.0 then I'd upgrade to version 5.0! *sighs*
Maxhedroom
Same happened to me when I tried FF4...I can't 'live' without my addons and skin. lol I'm just gonna wait until FF6 is totally done then wait another month or two for all my addons to update compatibility, THEN I'll move from 3.6.
Ambrocious
These rapid releases looks like it will force everyone to be quick on their toes, as far as any developer goes. My mom just barely got used to Firefox 4, boy is she gonna throw a hissy fit when it's time to upgrade in a few months! Most older people hate it when computer stuff changes a lot. I could get use to it but all the constant and fast changes destroys the value of things. People wont have time to stop and smell the roses eventually, only hear about how the rose bush has been changed 3 times in one day. In 10 years from now it appears that the realisticness of how fast computers will change is pretty mind blowing. Computers will almost have to have a mandatory polymorphic CPU or the equivalency thereof just to keep up with the rapidity of change!
RadioActive
Mozilla MUST do something about their outdated addon platform, they should've phased it out completely by now and replaced it by a more flexible one (jet?).
Administrator DKT27 Posted June 19, 2011 Administrator Share Posted June 19, 2011 Remember one thing guys. These compatibility numbers are probably added by developers because they don't know whether their addon will work in future versions or not. You can easily override them when you find that those addons are properly working.Mozilla MUST do something about their outdated addon platform, they should've phased it out completely by now and replaced it by a more flexible one (jet?).Again, "this addon is not compatible" thing will stay forever because it's there to keep Firefox from breaking down. But jetpack is on the way for sure. I'm seeing great addons everyday on Mozilla addons page. Search "restartless" (without quotes) on Mozilla addons. :)
