@mrkool123:

You won't see anything much. I'm using Nightly and there's only a few things that I noticed.

I do not mean to pop in, but I must admit this trend I am seeing

concerns me a little.

First, a little bit of me...I do not use Internet Explody because it has more hooks than a fishermans toolbox.

So, one day Firefox showed up....I jumped on it. Too new and too simple to be screwed with, security add ons

to help keep you safe, and you could even change its' look. As an average user, I was happy.

Well, as time went on, small bugs popped up, security patches were issued and yes, version numbers were changed.

But this happened over time, slowly. Firefox still rocked. Yes, some things worked better, and some stopped working

due to comparability issues or security holes that were closed. Ok, I could live with that too.

Then Google decided it needed a browser too, enter Google Chrome. Ok, I like Google, so I gave it a try.

Honestly, as an average user, it was ok. I thought it sort of looked like a generic copy of Firefox, (I know it was not..but it looked like it),

so I figured I would just stick with FF.

OK, flash forward. It seems to me that my current version of 4.whatever just happened a little bit ago.

And for the first time, I was NOT happy with the change. Some of my set up got wiped out completely. I had to use some developer code to re-create my profile and manually put it back together again.

Now I am having flash backs of Internet Explody, that over bloated cow of a browser.

So, now that I have my FF back together and running well, I learn from this forum that version 5 will be bouncing out sometime this month.

Why? Why the rush? What is this turmoil for?

I am seriously thinking about dumping FF and loading Chrome.

I know that as a tech head I should jump at all the changes...but honestly, my thing is hardware. I am happy when my software works with out any hassle. I feel like I am the only one. I have seen the "changes". I do NOT see anything that the average user is going to notice nor care about. But what concerns me the most is have another mass version change, and have my FF profile fubar'ed again.

Do you know if Chrome is doing the version change band wagon? Or has it settled down? I am thinking it is time to jump ship....again.

@grouchysmurf: You mean Internet Explorer. :)

You know what you said happened to me few days ago. Culprit? I tried a addon that was not posted on Mozilla addons. Totally fu*cked my Firefox. Lot of my profile and all of my addons were wiped out. I won't blame FF for that though.

Also, if there's anything concerning you about Firefox, just ask, don't like the new looks? There's a fix for it. Addons don't work, there's a fix for it. Having crashes/hangs/problems? There's a fix for it and Mozilla is also fixing many of them.

From v5, Mozilla is going after fast release cycle. In rapid release, the version number changes fast. And starting from this rapid release cycle, there would be no major version what so ever. Bugs would be fixed fast, features would be concentrated one by one. You won't see many problems even if version number changes.

Chrome is not bad. I personally ain't comfortable. ATM, all three, FF, Chrome, Opera are head to head. All have weaknesses and positives. Prefer what helps you the most. But about Chrome release cycle, it's going to stay like this forever. So is FF. Even IE has taken a fast release approach, one major version (number) every year. Dunno about Opera but I guess it will join too.

- Internet Explorer 9 kicks ass and most graphical heavy sites work WAY better in IE9 than in any other browser. It's also much improved on the other fronts.

- Opera maintains their own development cycle... releasing snapshot builds whenever they like to, sometimes even twice/day, sometimes one every two weeks... I doubt they bother taking on this fast Dev/Beta/Final cycle that Google and now, Mozilla adopted.

This

Ie9 is absolutely amazing on such sites. In general, video rendering occurs better in my experience in ie9...

but Opera #1 for me!

Installed firefox 5, its way faster than version 4.It loads pages faster, starts up faster and also uses less memory.
