they really need to consider india and the land around it as a separate continent, since it broke off of africa and never was part of asia.

just as the middle east is actually part of africa, but thanks to british geologist of the 1800's map makers, it was declared part of asia.

btw north america.

but the land around india is asia, and india is very firmly in asia. Not sure how they came up with europe though, someone just drew a line and said ok, thats europe, theres actually no break between europe and asia, I cant remember from school but i think it was actually called eurasia many years ago, but mabe I just made that up. :frusty:

India broke off of Africa just as Antarctica broke off before India. South America broke off of Africa. that is why Brazil is so rich in gems and metals as South Africa where it was once connected. if only Idia was still in the middle of the indian ocean. now that would gave us some very interesting history then.

the euro and asia plates are being push a bit together. ural mountains is the line i believe. (misspelled) in old ussr. i think that it also causes the increase coldest there in russia. most of Europe lands gave/buckle and we got the alps.

Vatican City - Read about it a while back in a fact book ;)

theres actually no break between europe and asia

Actually there is... it's believe it or not through Turkey. The cut off point is where Istanbul meets mainland Turkey. Istanbul is classified as being inside Europe, while Turkey itself is classed as being in Asia. This is the reason for their request to join the EU.

Anyway, I'm European :frusty:

Wiki - Vatican City | CIA.gov - Vatican City

Independence:

11 February 1929 (from Italy); note - the three treaties signed with Italy on 11 February 1929 acknowledged, among other things, the full sovereignty of the Vatican and established its territorial extent; however, the origin of the Papal States, which over the years have varied considerably in extent, may be traced back to the 8th century.

Basically, it has it's own Government, police force and monarchy (as such). They do however use the electricity etc... from Italy itself but it is totally independant.

HOWEVER...!

In the basis of a fair and accurate record... I am emailing the 'Guiness World Records' as they will have the definitive answer ;)

I couldn't find it on their site ;) Hopefully I'll get a reply soon!

Edit* I did spot this however from their site

yeah, I looked it up too, and was proved to be very wrong :D Liechtenstein was only 6th smallest, Vatican was the winner by a very long way. I think it used to be Liechtenstein and the powers that be shrunk the others just to spite me...
