sig question

I have recently hid my forum sigs with spoiler tags.

I am doing this to make it easier on others who may have slower connections, or lower end videos

to view the posts without having to get bogged down with my color.

Is this allowed?

Well truthfully .. you should know that these individuals have the option of not viewing images t all .. in their profile settings for the site and the option, even of use the mobile skin.. If you optimize your images as much as possible and get the file size down to the smallest size without degrading images loss.. it should really be fine.. nor really something to worry about.. BUT as I mentioned they do have options they can set themselves to get around that.. I mean unless you put a 1.5 MB size spinning globe into your signature.. I really would not worry about it.. Plus I think that images within spoilers still are downloaded anyway.. but I could be wrong.. reason I say that is because I always see the image as soon as the spoiler drops.. instead of noticing a load millisecond or something..

I actually worried about the one I have now because it is three times the zise of what I normally use as a sig.. but this is a result of ghostery/marble looking patterns.. :P and transparency that is being used.. it looks completely different depending upon what background you put it on..

mara- is correct. The images are still loaded even though they are hidden.

Your intentions are honorable though, and of course it is allowed :)

Edit: the size of your signature is not allowed though, the animated GIF is 8 Mb!

Thank you for that info. I will be dropping the animated sig.

toyo: No, I did not use photoshop.

I use 2 different programs when I create color changes. I build with Gimp and then I use

a program called Jasc Animation Shop 3 to create the color change. It will do a uniform change across the whole file.

It takes less time, but it seems that unless I let it optimize, the file size is a problem.

You can achieve (pretty) fluid animations at small sizes, but you must change your software. Anyway, using 2 apps for what can be done in one (Flash Pro) is pointless. Adobe apps can export heavily optimised web formats, you can make use of that.

Also, animating in applications that are thought for image processing (like GIMP/Photoshop) is cumbersome and takes a lot more time. Just jump to Flash and you'll be happy.

For those on slow connections its possible to disable the viewing of signatures and avatars in your UserCP ;)
