Bitdefender released BitDefender Security Scan, a free security tool for windows systems that provides information of speed, Security and stability issues of your System.

BitDefender Security Scan works in conjunction with any Antivirus or Internet Security Suite , but it is not a replacement for your existing security product. It just notifies security issues, registry problems and missing windows updates.

The application is around 5.5 MB size, so you can take it out a USB or Thumb drive. When you install the app and click scan then it will check for installed Antivirus, Firewall, Malwares, registry problem, missing Windows updates and will show a report.

The application uses BitDefender Quickscan, which takes full advantage of “in-the-cloud” technology to detect active malware in less than a minute — taking just a fraction of the system resources needed by a regular virus scan. There is no need for virus signature updates, as the entire virus database and the scanning engines are hosted on remote servers.

My view :

This free tool doesn’t provide any immediate solution to fix problems on your PC, when you click “FIX ALL” it will recommend you to install a software to fix both security threats and improve computer’s speed and stability. In this case the tool recommends you to install BitDefender Total Security 2011.

But the best part of the tool is, it is very useful to check whether you have up-to-date windows updates and know whether your existing Antivirus software is working or not. Also you can use this tool on public computers like Browsing centers & libraries to make user whether it is infected or not.
