Nero 8 phoned home! Should I be worried?

Hey guys,

I just installed Nero 8.

Loaded up Nero Vision and got a window telling me my key was pirated and that the "third party patent" wouldn't activate.

Also offered me a 10% discount on buying a serial.

What the heck? Clearly the keygen cannot be used and the site should be updated accordingly.

Should I be worried? Do you think they're gonna try to track me down?? =(

No they wont track you down. Its just like when you visit MS windows site and it tells you you have a invalid windows key when you try to get updates if you don't have the latest WGA workaround installed. They wont track just trying to offer the program to you legally.

win xp or vista?

im going to guess xp. xp firewall does not block outgoing. that is why yuo do not use xp firewall.

also when you install software like nero you do the following. have internet access turn off. nistall software. do not reboot. (unless INF in the winrar file says so) apply winrar file. reboot. and go from there. also turn auto updates off

now nero 8 i use winrar file from nero 7 and did not havea problem with niether xp nor vista over here.

yeah I'm on XP

um, in this case you have to use a Keygen, not a crack or anything, so it looks like no matter what you have to block Nero from having net access.

It's not true :) U could do a workaround and block software - even alcohol can be blocked using XP firewall - u just add rule for software and allow to connect to just few IP adressess which is not that which alcohol want's to use and firewall will not allow to connect to ip's not added in rule :)

i like to play it safe. ms tends to avoid their own rules a lot. with nero and a120 then just add them to the host file then. my way keps it simple. lets face it xp sp2 was 1/2 azzed. they should had their firweall blocking outgoing. sp2 basically stole all the tweaks that one had to use to make xp safer.

looking at their one care crap, one can see they are trying to go to a pay as you go software. no thanks. i dont trust xp firewall period
