<img src="http://www.nsanedown.com/images/logos/VBox.png" class="logo" alt="VirtualBox" title="VirtualBox" />VirtualBox is an application installed on an existing host operating system; within this application, additional operating systems can be loaded and run, each with its own virtual environment. For example, several Linux distributions can be hosted on a single machine running Windows XP; likewise, XP and Vista can run on a machine running Linux, and so on. There is a free for personal or evaluation use proprietary version and a GNU General Public License (GPL) version.

Thanks to <span style="color: red;">thylacine</span> for the update.

For those of us who have issues when it comes to installing VirtualBox and its drivers... Beware.. this one was worse than the last.. Froze during the installation of the third driver... When I tried to reboot froze again and the Windows Flag.. Hard boot ( worst place to do it at ).. ' Windows Could Not Start... blah blah Registry missing or corrupt... '

I had to use my OS Disk to fix the Startup.. Then switch back to the one that was not restored to get back to normal.. Then had to redo/import my ESS Settings all over again.. and reinstall PGP.. So be careful... if you happen to have a system that has these issues when updating VB.. ( really wish they would fix this.. ) Still not for sure what else may have been corrupted..

I've just installed the new version upon the old one and I haven't had a single problem. :dance2:

Good for you.. :P DKT and I both had issues last go around coming from cFos and with mine ESS as well.. I forgot this time...

Installed fine this time around. Haven't started it though. Would be dead if I chose to run VM on just 2GB RAM and a 64bit Windows. :P

I haven't started min either yet.. Do you install the USB and Network interface drivers full installation with Python support all selected to be installed?

I keep it at default. I think everything is enabled when kept at default. So I guess the answer would be yes. Well, it did blink the screen during network driver installation, and for a time it did started the hang the mouse, reminded me of the BSOD times where that type of hang meant a warning, BSOD coming. But everything went fine. :)

The second installation with no network loaded went smooth after I repaired my system... I keep thinking this has something to do with a few problems I have been having though... I would play around a bit but I am afraid to go through what I have been with two system in the past three days.. gets tiring..

Obviously because they can possibly crash systems for lack of being CERTIFIED to meet the requirements... On the other hand.. it could be that signing of these driver is expensive.. Possibly even something ORACLE has yet to figure out how to do.. SUN's version 3 never had this problem.. but in order to hook into Windows Virtually they must be used... Though I would deem them threatening after my experience as of late.. LOL

I didn't get any uncertified drivers notification during installation.

I did until I approved them and drivers from ORACLE... the second time. on the first notification... when all went smoothly.. This could be the area where the problem develops..

Yeah, but my question was about the "why is it so"

I don't find a lot of programs that come out with those pop-up warnings about the fact that what you are installing "didn't pass the compatibility tests" (or something like that), so I was wondering why after so many versions VirtualBox is still in that situation (I don't think that VMWare is in the same situation)

Well, you are right. Now that you reminded, I did get a popup window. Not sure if it was for driver. It was looking like those Java popups asking you whether you want this site to run Java or install this program...
