nsane.forums Posted January 4, 2011 Share Posted January 4, 2011 Tunisia latest to be hit with DDoS attacks A group of WikiLeaks supporters are taking aim at the web sites of governments opposed to the data-sharing site. Experts say that the group has begun to launch a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on government sites such as those of Tunisia. According to Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley said that the attacks appear to be part of an ongoing campaign against governments that have tried to block off access to WikiLeaks information. The researcher noted a similar attack recently launched against the government of Zimbabwe. The group behind the attack bills itself as an operation of the Anonymous internet movement. Similar groups have previously been linked to DDoS attacks on WikiLeaks opponents such as PayPal and MasterCard. WikiLeaks, meanwhile, has denied any affiliation with the Anonymous movement or contact with those behind it. The data-sharing site has found itself under attack from both the government and private sector in recent weeks. Shortly after WikiLeaks posted a massive collection of leaked cable transmissions, the site came under criticism from government groups. The aftermath of the leaks and various reprisals have seen WikiLeaks and Anonymous targeted by attacks as well. Meanwhile, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was accused of sexual assault in Sweden.
