shought
This is just a short (hopefully, I don't know yet) note to you all in order to explain why we would like to ask you not to use the status updates to notify us of software updates (amongst others). Some staff members close the sidebar or just do not look at it when they are updating the frontpage, so they might miss it if you post software upadtes in there. In addition it's not very productive to have it at two different places, even if they do look for it. ;)The status updates are not an alternative to posting, but they are an addition to our community (to allow for short (personal?) messages to other members);anything that would previously be posted in a topic should still be posted in a topic.(So not just updates, but also general questions and the like are not supposed to be posted in the status updates.)We hope you understand our concerns and that you will abide our request :)ps I kept it reasonably short, don't you think? (Added some parts, now it's average... :()pps we don't want to start locking or even deleting status updates which contain information that should be put in a topic :fear:
shought
Additionally I should mention that Frontpage Software Updates do not require you to abide the exact 'Downloads Guidelines'. If you only post (i) the download link, (ii) the (link to the) changelog and (iii) make sure the proper version number is included in the title then it is fine.(This is to show that we understand you want to notify us about the updates as quick as possible and requiring you to write a description or even add a logo would make no sense in that regard. The logo and description can be found on the frontpage anyhow.)
