@nivrid05:

They haven't fixed this yet: #598466 [Core:General]-Increase in per-tab memory usage (2-3x) between Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 beta 6 [Win]

Sometimes I exceed 100+ tabs and Firefox consumes 1 GB or more.

Thanks Biz ... you saved me some bandwidth :lol:

Here's the benchmark (attached). Although there are some small improvements in tests, for me this version feels somehow sluggish. Fonts still not fixed!

Cheers ;)

I'll benchmark as soon as I get some time. :)

I read they have done some improvements in the GPU acceleration, panaroma, and redesigned addons manager, etc. Of course many bugs are fixed. I've read that some more changes were done when in pre release. When you enter in "Private Browsing" mode, the "App" button changes its color to Purple.

It features new and sexy semi-translucent dialog box. It also enables a blur effect in background to make the alert box more attractive and easy to notice.

beta 8 stable enough to replace 3.6.13 yet ?

Many add-ons don't work yet in Firefox 4 Beta. :( You should check to see if all your add-ons will work.

Quite odd:

Note: I benchmarked it thrice to make sure. I believe that me using a beta ATI graphics card driver (that's giving me BSODs) has some impact on the numbers.

HTML5 Sudoku tests (10000):

Chrome 8: 2.230s

Firefox 4 Beta 7: 8.005s

Firefox 4 Beta 8: 2.569s

Opera 11: 2.624s

IE 9 B1: 19.882s

@DKT27

I also had same result as you two-three times I tried. I tried once again, and I got score I posted. Strange indeed.

Cheers ;)

I see. Can't really understand. Had even tried disabling hardware acceleration. On the other side, see how much improvement it has done on HTML5 Sudoku test.

@anuraag: Thanks for the PortableAppS update. When I checked 8 hours ago, there was nothing new, but now here it is. :D

Here's tete009's modified custom build of Firefox 4.0 Beta 8:

- changed icons to Firefox defaults

- changed Minefield strings to Firefox / Mozilla Firefox

- applied upx compression on some files

- removed unnecessary files / folders

If some of you are interested, here you go: Link

Well, right from the first beta, it's sluggish on the very first start. But after few mins it's gets going quite well. Don't worry Firefox has a long way to go. Speeds should improve (more) in future versions.
