Front page tab cycle is bloody annoying!

I notice the Downloads/Topics/Polls tabs on the front page now automatically cycle.

What, in God's name is the point of that? I'm trying to read one of the tab's contents, and the stupid thing decides I should look at the next one instead and moves me to it.

Grrr.... really bloody annoying.

lol. Just move the mouse cursor over it and it will stay on the tab you want. most users prefer the autoscroll though. ;)

I personally think its kinda cool.. But yeah like LeetPirate said, mouse-over and it will stop. Then you can also click the Tabs up top and choose which one you want to view..

Not sure why people think its "cool" I'm with the topic starter - I like nsane to be "still" no flashy grafics no flashy jumpy banners... just plain and simple i don't want to be forced to read the next tab when i know its there. if i wanted to read the next tab ide click it.

I think its a great way to showcase the various different types of activity we have going on in the forums to new individuals and guests to the front page, who may not at first realize how much actually goes on here in the Forum Community. Its the only thing that isn't specific to Software Updates and News.. shifting from one to the next sort of gives it a presentation effect... that may spark interest.. Quite a bit can be missed by just going by whats listed there anyway because there can be so much more go on as far as Content is concerned.. I think it helps bring more people into the Forums.. if even to see what else is going on..

Various opinions... (This was to be expected.)

I'll look into adding a cookie-based setting which disables the rotation, everybody happy? (I actually looked into this earlier but couldn't get it to work, another try might provide different results.)

I wouldn't say its a big problem - I can live with it :P

I found this response particularly valuable. Even for me that is true. But yeah - it (the feature of tab cycle) can become feeling tedious felt. So I perfectly understands the OP. shought is maybe hinting of some change to it.

After little over 3 hours of work a solution is there, we're currently 'beta-testing' it, but I think we can employ it fairly soon :)

It involves a cookie based setting to enable/disable the tab rotation (if you don't clean your cookies after closing your browser (which is really not necessary, anymore) you will only have to disable it once).

Thanks shought,

I Completely understand the point made by heath28m.

But, I would definitely like to be able to disable that autoscroll myself.

Point taken :)

It was actually supposed to be a functionality, but I got a headache while scripting it; mainly cookies + javascript (you'd be surprised if you knew how hard it was to find a proper example of setting a cookie with javascript, without any 'advanced settings'), but there were some other issues.

So, after Beta testing we found out it still didn't work :P (Naturally I was left with a headache.)

So I redid everything, again, and now it works (for sure ). It'll be available fairly soon ;)

ps yeah, this is a late reply, but I was bored and wanted to reply somewhere useful :P
