Problem with status updates

Recommended Posts

It's same with Firefox and Chrome. Both themes are working fine, after I switch it. For example, I'm on CleanCut now an comments does not work. I switch to IP.Board and comments starts to work. Next time I visit forum, comments stops working again. I switch from IP.Board to CleanCut and it starts working again. Same thing is happening with notifications, like for new PM. But this with notification only happens on index page of the forum. If I try to open notification while I'm in private messages section, it opens fine, without changing the theme.

Cheers ;)

You have went through and cleaned ALL temporary files.. even in the Java Console.. ( I know it may not be directly related.. but possibly indirectly.. )...

Okay here goes..

  1. Open your Control Panel, go to list view or small icons view.. ( Classic I think in XP )

  2. Find Java, ( or type 'J' - focuses ' J's ' automatically, and hit ' Enter ' ).. Open that..

  3. Go to the first tab.. and go to ' Temporary Settings '

Here you can manage files which are kept in your system.. Storage size, and can also disable Storage all together.. and clean or wipe these files.. There are also quite a few more advance settings in the applet that allow you to properly manage your ORACLE Java/Sun installation(s). My advise is to turn storage off unless you really use a lot of Java apps in your system which are served.. and even if you do that.. clean them manually, regularly.. infection and malicious files can be found in this area..

(without as why it is of interest to me), but would like to know as why Post View count show does not display correctly?

IE I had a look, came back (and surely had some peeps had a look at a help topic), but views where still 75...

We've updated the forum skin, did this do any good?

Honestly, do miss choice of few more skins...

Views are cached for 30, 45 or 60 minutes (not sure) ;)

They will update later :)

We are intending on creating one, but we've been focusing on the frontpage for now. (We have limited resources, you know :P)

We could obviously add some cool skins that are already created, if you could suggest some that would be great :) (Or anyone else.)

The only issues with multiple skins is ensuring they stay updated with the latest version of IPB...

Please do voice these concerns in either a separate topic or the Site / Forum Wishlist ;)

Whenever, I try to be quick and simple- poo happens...

basicly, I had a look at help needed topic, had to do few other things, came back- same view number?- not sure weather do research etc or put big (most likely double/tripled) effort to help?

any advantage of "cashing" for 30, 45, 60 min?

If you did it in real time query times would be high for processing thousands of requests on every load for everyone.. The site would overall be slower...and its not that imperative...refreshing the page every few seconds to see it change isn't really needed.. so caching and then updating at intervals reduces the server load.. and I believe is a part of the design and how its is supposed to work.. ( would be hard to change.. )

There was a thread somewhere about Forum Skins... or whatever.. but it has been awhile back... ( still bumping for Cethin.. but then I have do more designing..at nsane.graphic.design... LOL )

It's indeed part of the core functions of the forum (IPB). This is something that could probably be changed as easy as flipping a switch (within the code, that is), but we don't want to be doing that and we don't feel the need to do this is there. On the bright side the amount of views on the frontpage topics does update immediately or every 3 minutes (not too sure here either :P).

As heath28m said it would probably slow down the site but it would most definitely increase server resource usage. The frontpage relies heavily on caching as well (times are shorter though).

I could go the length and explain everything here, but if you want a more accurate explanation of forums/frontpage/caching and the like then please make a separate topic in the Technology Talk (I guess) or send me a PM ;) (Preferably a topic.)

Sorry, I didn't see the posts. Yes, it works fine now. I can comment now normally, without changing skins every time. Thanks.

Cheers ;)
