he major firmware update 2.3.20 for the DROID 2 smartphone seems to be making its way to Verizon's customers, after being rumored more than a week ago. Reported by a few DROID 2 owners, the update is being pushed or “pulled” as we speak, but it might take a while until everyone gets it.

The update dubbed 2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.US/BP_C_01.09.07P includes numerous enhancements and improvements, detailed below.

Improvements:

- View the Weather widget in both landscape and portrait orientation.

- Simpler setup, improved user interactions, and better notifications for Visual Voice Mail.

- Background Email Sync during display inactivity for better user experience.

- Edit text messages after you've inserted a video file.

- Improved audio sound during recorded video playbacks.

Enhancements:

- New ability to add pictures from your Gallery to a contact.

- Export all your contacts to the SD card.

- View details of Social Networking contacts.

- Even if Verizon plans to push the update starting at midnight, DROID 2 users can try to “pull” the update directly from the carrier's servers.

Basically, this means that you may be able to get the update without waiting for it to be pushed” to your device.

The ability to “pull” updates has been recently introduced by Motorola on some of its latest smartphones (Droid X, D2 or Devour) and is called Blur Over the Air Server.

To check if you're already eligible for the update, simply browse through your menu to Settings, About, System Update.
