Authur
Hello,I've summarized the following disadvantages of open source, Pls check, and give me suggestions;1.Least competitive featuresYou may easily find popular backup software owns comprehensive features, such as backup& restore data, applications, settings and everything of whole PC, and support of popular operating system, and others. It means innovation is just what open source lacks.2.Insufficient user experienceThree factors that lead software to success are feature, marketing, and public praise. Excellent software always highlights user experience, especially UI, but less organization could pay attention to user experience for the open source. 3.Dependent technologyCurrent backup open source has its unique character, such as the developer’s edition habit, and code selection. If there is no instruction from the developer, it is hard to public developers to understand it. Meanwhile, it also results in bad compatibility and less integration.4.High maintenance costFor repairing a bug, or changing some working process, you have to spend a lot of time to study many modules and modify many program interfaces. HX1
Other disadvantages are ..Support - you can expand on these.. there usually isn't any and you are left dealing with rage-roid ridden Linux box users from last century.. who are pained to even be asked.. LOL ( BTW Linux isn't the problem here for the dissociative.. the user.. 'Not the machinery, its the operator... " )Knowledge base - Having people with Like experience OS and knowledge of the app.. I thin you covered this a little..Security - Less secure ( in some cases ) and takes longer to update...Rolling turn-over as one open source gets put together with something else and then changes names.. and evolves and you are constantly having to update and change software.. so maintenance and IT... note..Over end-user accessibility and usability.. which I think you covered.. but in other terms..EDIT: Deceptive..especially when the help you are going to get to upgrade to paid services.. HX1
I just wonder why find disadvantages of something that is free. Atleast its better than pirating. Isnt it??Not all things are as mentioned.. so.. but there are issues..I'll use this as an example:You desperately need someone qualified to do a job thoroughly as possible, efficiently and as laid down by corporate.. You can't seem to find anyone and are left interviewing people for days.. you find one candidate that will work, that fits the bill, and has the physical and mental tools needed to accomplish the job who exhibits focus.. and objectivity.. but he wants 401K and Insurance.. Stock Benefits and $1 more and hour..and work by themselves and follow directions as well as make decisions on the go to accomplish the goal.. than... the second candidate who says they sort of understand what the job is about... not technically mentally nor physically capable... is definitely going to need their hand held throughout the whole process..doesn't communicate well in the countries native tongue.. does not care about 401k's and all that.. and will work for minimum wage.. Who do you choose... A or B... While you may be willing to train them a little will they even be capable of retaining it.. and using it.. to accomplish the task at hand.. ( possibly even bring something to improve the efficiency of the task to the table ) and how will this effect the place of business in the future.. will it cost you more time in finding replacements on down the road.. or will it be entangled in lawsuits from being hurt on the job resulting in workers comp... and how will this represent you and the corporation?Who do you choose... A or B... OR... do you do without and try to take it on your own shoulders as added responsibility.. and doing it the hard way?Rape, murder, stealing..ignorance, idiocy... retardations.. its all free too.. so is insanity.. and the sick disgusting accompanying cycle.. Administrator DKT27 Posted October 13, 2010 Administrator Share Posted October 13, 2010 I still find advantages of opensource more in numbers than compared to it's disadvantages. If you look closely, you will even see many opensource communities converting and changing the disadvantages into advantages. ;)The only disadvantage that I know of about opensource is that the maker wont be allowed to fill his pockets.
