Tool integrates with Microsoft email to reduce mail server burden

WinZip has announced a new compression tool that integrates with Microsoft Outlook to automatically compress attachments in outgoing emails, saving time and bandwidth for users, according to the firm.

WinZip Courier 3.0 is an updated version of the firm's WinZip E-Mail Companion tool and integrates directly into Outlook 2010, 2007 or 2003 to automatically zip email attachments and optionally encrypt them as well.

"During a busy day, you may not notice just how long it takes to send an email with an attachment, but when you consider every time you’ve had to wait for a large document to leave your email and the extra time it takes to manually compress, save and attach your files, it’s easy to see the time wasted," said WinZip president Patrick Nichols.

WinZip, which is now owned by Corel, said that Courier can relieve bandwidth pressure on email servers, while providing security for critical data through the choice of 128bit or 256bit AES encryption.

IT administrators can easily customise and deploy WinZip Courier to workers in order to benefit from transmission time reductions and disk space savings, the company claimed.

WinZip Courier has a suggested retail price of £21.95, with volume licensing options for organisations. A free trial is also available.
