Administrator DKT27 Posted September 16, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted September 16, 2010 I've posted my benchmarks on IE9 thread. ;)This version is buggy, glitches during benchmark, and even the results are not favorable. But then again, this version is a sort of (previous) bug fixing release. Am waiting for the new JS engine in Beta 7. :D
Bizarre™
It is indeed best to wait for Beta 7. The latest nightlies causes high CPU consumption.I know, since I use latest hourly updates.
Smoore
The cpu usage is 49% or more with one tab open using the nightly! I close it and it remains open in the background till terminate the process. Interesting thing is I found the exact same problem with Opera 10.60. I strongly suspect this is a flash related issue. R0H1T
mara-Got a similar score(~4000) for Minefield while Chrome(canary build) scored over 8000 btw the latest nightly build(comm central trunk 4.0b7pre) crashes during the peacekeeper benchmark !UPDATE New UI elements & changes upcoming in Firefox 4.0b7.Will get other benchmark results out for Minefield as soon as possible. Bizarre™
@Smoore:It doesn't happen on 3.6.* so it's safe to say it has something to do with JM ^_^
Smoore
Found the problem! Every fresh install of FF works great. A day or so later it won't close and sucks 50% cpu. I kept scratching my head. I couldn't delete my profile folder to see if maybe it was an extension and found (unlocker) it had an sqlite file being locked up in Advanced System Cares privacy sweep process and it failed to release it. After terminating asc.exe it runs great with under 4% cpu! Uncheck Mozilla from your Privacy Sweep settings in AdvancedSystemCare!
Night Owl
Am I dreaming? It appears that the PortableAppS people have finally released a portable version of Firefox 4.0 Beta 6: Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 4.0 Beta

Administrator DKT27 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted September 27, 2010 I'm dying here to put my hands on Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 (no not nightly(s)). :frusty:It should have released long a go, but it seems they will release on 1 Oct, which was the scheduled date for Beta 8.@Biz: Please notify when tete09 releases the Beta 7. I wanna test the tete build and compare the results.

Administrator DKT27 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted September 27, 2010 Well, when I tested 2 custom builds, I found them being quite low in the score in the benchmarks when compared to the normal Firefox. But lets see. ^_^I wont be using tete though. I love installers, not portable versions.
Bizarre™
@DKT27:tete009's build may be portable, but it has an uninstaller. You should know if you had been inspecting the modified custom builds I upload ^_^Also, I believe tete009's fastest custom build is 3.6.
Administrator DKT27 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted September 27, 2010 Yea I think I saw a uninstaller when I used it. But because it's a portable version, I have some compatibility problems with other softwares recognizing it as my main browser. It shouldn't be so, but it is. Plus, I don't like their icon. :P
Bizarre™
Plus, I don't like their icon. :PIcon? WTF?!Now I'm doubting if you really were using the modified custom builds I upload.I always replace the crappy nightly icons with the original firefox icons. Administrator DKT27 Posted September 27, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted September 27, 2010 I did use your uploaded firefox (mediafire link). :)It's just that it's shade was a bit different. Believe me, it wasn't the exact real Firefox icon, it was a bit darker.

Night Owl
I installed Minefield Portable 4.0 Beta 7 Pre Nightly from the PortableAppS people. Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 Pre Nightly Portable is nice, but it still has bugs to fix:Radio buttons are completely missing when doing advanced searches here at nsane :oThere's a status bar that seems to be completely useless now, but I can't see a way to hide it.Menu options are very buggySmooth scrolling is a bit sluggishEDIT: The box is missing at nsane.forums to type your recent status update :oNo wonder Beta 7 is way behind schedule. :( At least I'm not seeing high CPU usage that people reported with earlier Beta 7 Pre Nightly builds. :)
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 6, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks for the info Night. :)So it seems that Mozilla may well take 5-10 more days to release the Beta 7. I'm dying here. :sui:
Night Owl
You're welcome, DKT27.Yes, Mozilla definitely needs quite a few days to get Beta 7 into shape. I'm dying too, that's why I finally decided to try the Nightly build. :fear: I don't know if you saw my edit update — Beta 7 doesn't show the nsane.forums box to type in your Recent Status Update. :o
Administrator DKT27 Posted October 6, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted October 6, 2010 Maybe it's because it's portable version? Did you try the official installer version. You know, you can install all the betas side by side without any of them interfering with each other? Till Beta 6 came out, I had Beta 1-5 in my C drive. :D ANW, you should give the installer versions a try. Never know.I did see that you've edited it, but missed the 5th point. :P
Night Owl
The Portable installer is only 806 KB in size. It just downloads the very latest nightly trunk build:For advanced testers, we also make available a portable version of Minefield, which is a test build for some of the technologies that will appear in later versions of Firefox. The Minefield Portable installer will automatically download the current trunk build of Minefield from Mozilla's servers during installation. It will install to a FirefoxPortableNightly dirctory alongside your existing copy of Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.Warning: This is NOT A FINAL OR PRE-RELEASE VERSION. Bad things could happen. Administrator DKT27 Posted October 6, 2010 Author Administrator Share Posted October 6, 2010 I see. This means it may not have anything that's properly stable. You should try the installer version.
Bizarre™
@DKT27:I can confirm Night Owl's statement since I'm always using nightly builds.
