Oh man, Firefox 4 Portable is still stuck at Beta 3 (as of now). Looks like I'm going to have to set up a separate profile just for Firefox 4 if the Portable Apps people don't release a new portable version soon.

Small benchmark from me.

Firefox 4 is improving with every new beta. Hope they will catch up with Opera and Chrome in their final version.

I think they pulled the download for .9 as IDM sends connect msg then Quit msg.

I thought it was my end but everything else downloads fine :)

You are getting those errors because of high traffic on those servers.

Notice: This server is the only place to obtain nightly builds and needs to remain available to developers and testers. High bandwidth servers that contain the public release files are available at ftp://releases.mozilla.org/ If you need to link to a public release, please link to the release server, not here. Thanks! Attempts to download high traffic release files from this server will get a "550 Permission denied." response.

I added some new links to the mainstream English releases, use those instead.

You guys know we post stuff here faster than the authors have time to update their webpages, rest assured the version numbers are correct and we use whichever links work at the time of posting. When jalaffa made the initial post the files were not yet available on the high traffic release servers but now that they are there I added the links for English releases.

I have only used a couple of programs from there.. but pretty much what I have seen is clean and done right.. :) I had to do some hacking for the Winamp version though..LOL.. small changes so I have all of my stuff for it..but Winamp is difficult anyway to get portable.. and modify.. ( really don't need it though.. I have players to do the job...)

My Benchmarks:

Note: CPU was overclocked by 5MHz (Bus Speed). That'd be about 120MHz in total overclocked. It may have some impact on the benchmarks. Also, edited the pic to show that both versions of the browser were tested.

Got to say. Firefox is going on quite nice. But I don't think we'll see more speed after the Firefox Beta 6 release. :(

Sense 1/2 hour ago started using 4.0.beta 5 ( 3.69 is uninstalled ) --» no problems found until now but still is very soon for... to give an opinion...

One of the heads at Mozilla mentioned that they wanted to reach atleast the speed of Chrome v5. :think:

I just read a article that mentioned how one of the inventors of Firefox left Mozilla only to get employed by Google for making a browser for Google that was just a rumor once. :unsure:

I installed Firefox 4.0 Beta 5 Portable from the PortableAppZ people over Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 Portable from the PortableAppS people. Everything seems to be running fine and Firefox 4 definitely feels faster.

However, whenever I start Firefox 4 Beta 5 Portable, I always see this window:

Is that expected? Or is something wrong? :unsure:

@Night Owl: I'm also using portable Firefox 4.0 b5 from PortableAppZ, no prompts like that for me. Tried it on Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
