SSC Ultimate Aero II: First Photos Of America's Bugatti Fighter

These exclusive first photos show the SSC Ultimate Aero II, the second generation of America's fastest supercar. It's gotta new look and a new mission: reclaim the title of world's fastest production car from the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. UPDATE

There once was a time where the American-built SSC Ultimate Aero TT was the world's fastest production car, hitting 256 mph with its 1,183-hp 6.2-liter V8. In fact, it was just a few weeks ago. But then ze Germans stepped in to steal the record with their fancy Veyron Super Sport and its 268 mph top speed. As soon as it happened the folks at Shelby SuperCars suddenly started talking about their plans for an even more ultimate Aero.

According to a tipster, these are the first two photos of the new SSC Ultimate Aero II. Its a major leap forward compared to the purposeful-yet-derivative styling of the original, taking the angular look now Saab designer Jason Castriota used on the Stile Bertone Mantide and combining it with the wind tunnel-formed sexy-slipperiness of the Ferrari P4/5 for a look familiar to übercar enthusiasts yet a stand-out from both previous looks.

There's also now video of the car being unveiled for a select few individuals during the Pebble Beach Concours that was just posted to YouTube. In it, you can see the silver Saab Castiota drove around in during the festivities. The video also shows company founder Jarrod Shelby saying they'll have full-scale running prototypes mid-year 2011. He also goes on to promise the design "will not get watered down." Unfortunately, the video doesn't show the car. Fortunately, we've got pictures of it.

No word yet on exactly what's planned for the inside of this land-based jet fighter, but these photos of the first full-sized mock up are apparently from a shoot for a big European car mag and thus we'll hear more when they either release the magazine or freak out and publish everything early online from none other than Top Gear the magazine. Being the carefree chaps they are, they're happy to let us share them with you but would like us to remind you the exclusive full photo shoot of the car and details on info on just how it'll best the Bugatti Veyron will be available when the next issue hits newsstands September 8th.

Until then, enjoy the photos.

The SSC.. in all of its glory.. IS a HyperCar.. BUT a Bugatti.. well its like the Cadillac Sixteen Concept.. was to a regular Cadillac ( which I am upset with Cadillac 8min Nurburgring Lap three years ago.. and they make the commercial like they did recently.. 8 MINUTES.. pathetic ... LOL )..epic luxury 5 million dollar price tag...

The last SSC was a more of a pure bred car.. It was not built to be a piece of high end inaccessible art.. It was built to be a great HyperCar and do its job as it should.. a true car to drive and drive hard... The Bugatti encompasses a wider scope.. The SS in fact set the new land speed record of like above 270 MPH...

The thing is when it comes to trying to say that ..' This car is better than this car.. ' is that you have to consider what its design stipulates.. Where the car will perform better... what aspects this will lend itself too.. and how malleable on the track it is going to be... The truth in each is that everyone of them are a piece of art to be appreciated driven understood.. and used to their fullest extent.. in some ways each one of them are in a class of their own.. Each one will offer a different experience.. and from what they offer to you.. you discern which one you like..

To be able to state it you would have to understand the specs of the engineering and illustrate how and why.. and if your that good ..you either have created your own.. or you would be working on its design..Thats just the way I see it.. I mean its obvious when you come to apples and oranges... But you are talking about the best of production vehicles.. the top of the top.. Many out there.. and a lot to be said.. for what each company has accomplished and are able to do and with what.. and how well they have used all they have.. What all of that means to someone who truly DRIVES them..

Bugatti sucks in handling (I know it's still the best). Lets see how this one goes.

Bugatti sucks (doesn't feel like kart or rally/racing car... it is GT type of car)in handling (I know it's still the best). Lets see how this one goes.

I bet one car will be faster on straight one day

I bet one car will be better handling as GT

I bet one car will be as nice looking one day

I bet one car will be technology as advanced one day

All above^ in one car?- hardly ever!

Right.. one of the big movements in some of them is at minimum changing suspension settings for different uses.. and engine/transmission settings.. The Veyron is a very strong car on the top end.. Especially with QuadSuperchargers.. 16 Cylinder VW engine... 1200 HP.. Car for car.. I think I would go with the SSC on the GT thing.. You can't be afraid of the Veyron and you have to use HP in those cars to actually aid in your handling..along with downforce numbers and the balance in the suspension. None of it will matter if nobody knows how to use either one though..LOL ( nor can afford to pay for them when they wrecked or destroyed on track..LOL during the process..LOL.. Like the Zenvo.. You know they wrecked the car ( not badly ) during one of its presentations.. and I have not heard another word about it..

EDIT: The Dagger GT I forgot to mention... another Bugatti killer.. BUT lots of speculation...
