Google Chrome also uses a brand new javascript engine (V8), which is much faster than existing javascript interpreters. This means you can create more complex and more intensive AJAX applications with fewer speed and processing constraints. Finally, Google Chrome is built on top of WebKit, so Google Chrome users will benefit from the CSS3 features being added to WebKit as those features are released.

The changelog says:

Updates from the previous stable release include:

* Updated UI

* Form Autofill

* Syncing of extensions and Autofill data

* Increased speed and stability

I'm wary of upgrading my Stable version though because the updated UI previously (Beta and Dev channels) consisted of

  • merging the Page and Wrench icons into one not-so-usable icon
  • changing the colour scheme from blue to silver

And the new theme and one icon for both is more better. ^_^

You're welcome. I was hoping you would benchmark this latest Stable/Beta build later today. :D

I've read many people complain that it now takes more clicks to do things now. And some options are almost hidden away now. :o

Well, OK. I uninstalled 5.0.375.127 Stable and now installed this 6.0.472.53 Stable/Beta. Everything I read was right! :fear:

I've got the beautiful blue of nsane's CleanCut theme, I've got the beautiful blue of the aero showing the blue through the translucent title bar glass. And then I've got the new silver theme with Google Chrome 6. :fear: If I wanted silver everywhere I would have bought a Mac. :angry:

Well, I tried to install the Classic theme (original blue). I get a bar saying: Installed theme "Default" (with an Undo button). I restart Chrome and I've still got Mac silver! :fear: How do I get the Classic theme to be applied?

EDIT: Hmmm, after posting this, I noticed that the Mac silver of Chrome matches the silver shown on the nsane title bar where our names are shown. At least the Mac silver matches something. :lol:

EDIT 2: Well, there's definitely a bug with the Classic theme. It never loads. I think it's because it calls itself "Default" after downloading, but it's really called Classic. I tried most of the other themes and they all show a "Loading ..." display, but I undo them right away — UGLY!! :s

Here's my benchmark:

Note: I've installed a graphics card related update from Microsoft two days ago. It may have a positive impact on the numbers for the latest Chrome. All the other browsers shown above are tested a bit long ago.

About theme, this is the default theme from now on I guess. So google gallery is going to give you this one. Unless you can find another one in memory of the real Chrome theme I guess you'll have to stay with this one.

From what I see, Chrome has removed the blue theme (my favorite color :D ) to reduce it's simple look that has stopped many people from liking it. :P

I still support Firefox. :win:

Blue is my favourite colour too. :D As I mentioned, you can install the Classic Blue Chrome Theme which looks just like the default theme with Google Chrome 5 and earlier. Thank God the silver is gone. This is a no Mac zone. :lol:

Hey, Google Chrome 6 placed an icon on my desktop without asking! In the past, the Google Chrome installer always asked if it should be the default Web browser and then I would click on the Advanced button and tell it not to be the default browser, not to import bookmarks from Internet Explorer and not to install a desktop icon. I hate when an application forces a desktop icon on you. Well, at least looking at my Google Chrome options the installer didn't silently make Google Chrome my default browser.

EDIT: Oh yuck, just saw your edit with the Mac silver/gray logo. Mac silver be gone!! :battle: :lol:

Ew yuck!! It completely removed Aero and made it look like Chrome 5 on Windows XP!! :o

EDIT: Well, Chrome 5 on Windows XP looks nice, but on Windows 7 I want Aero. :D

But your theme only changes the color just a bit. I want it more blue (with aero on of course) . :(

Ah, so you want as much blue as you can get. I like the Classic Blue Chrome Theme so that I get exactly what I had with Chrome 5 on Windows 7 with the Aero. I don't know why, but I like Aero.

Does anybody have any great extensions they would recommend for Google Chrome?

I use the Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller. It works well in smoothly scrolling up or down a long Web page. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a reported bug where if you scroll horizontally using your TouchPad, the Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller will scroll vertically instead.
