Hi,

Can anyone recommend me a lightweight download manager that works with Windows 7 Ultimate (64x) ?

I was used to orbit downloader / Download Accelerator Plus but they don't seem to work in 64 bit do they?

Regards,

I like Flashget 3 much better than Internet Download Manager, it is faster, has more features, extremely light, supports BitTorrent and eMule to boost download speeds and best of all it is totally freeware.

Thanks.:)

offcourse the one and only....I D MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM lol well Internet Download Manager is the best download manager I've ever used it'll automatically show a download panel for every video or audio you play on the internet, this I think is the best feature of this software. It also accelerates the downloads wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than DAP and DAP is incompatible with firefox so thats a big problem for most of us. I am using a 1Mbps broadband and I get an average download speed of 101 to 120 KB per second which is far better than firefox's default downloader and DAP cause they do not give more than 36 or 40 KB per second.....

+1 for IDM

but do take note that everything will still depend on your network's internet speed.

My vote goes for Internet Download Manager.

When I first started using these DL Managers... I think I went in this order...

GetRight -> DAP -> FlashGet -> Orbit -> IDM {And stuck to IDM the longest}

I still use Flashget v1.9.6.1073.

I find that with firefox/flashgot it downloads most of my stuff.

Its redeeming factor is that you can have different databases. Otherwise a single database just gets too big and ages to load.

i.e You can have a database for films, one for software, another for hardware drivers etc...

Have not found this with other downloaders, and the latest Flashget does not have it either.

I have seen posts in other forums that say IDM is the best but without the database splitting its just not practical.

If by 'databases' you mean 'destination directories based on file type categories,' then IDM does have the following categories:-

01.) General

02.) Compressed

03.) Documents

04.) Music

05.) Programs

06.) Videos

These 6 categories are further expandable as per User configurations - BTW, I have mine integrated into one single database and there's absolutely no effect on the 'load.' 8)

No.

You already can do this in Flashget.

It can have a separate database file to store your different categories of downloads.

A database file to store all the links for MEDIA and then this can have its own categories. i.e Music, Video and then these can have their own categories Music; Heavy metal, Rock, Indi, etc..; Video; anime, cartoons, sciifi, horror, thriller etc..

Another database file to store Software and then this can have its own categories. i.e Software, Microsoft, Adobe, Mozilla, etc...

When you open the Media database file you won't see any of the Software links/categories.

I have quiet a few different database files with file sizes ranging from 80Kb to 25Mb and totaling over 70Mb.

I can combine all these database files into one and this will be over 70Mb. This does take a little while to open. and if you have firefox/flahgot to automatically download the link and have the full 70Mb database file to load, the link created has gone by the time Flashget kicks in.
