Yet another laptop problem

This laptop I've just received will only light up the LED's but nothing else. Sometimes the fan will spin up for 3 seconds then go idle.

There is no harddrive activity.

I've stripped the laptop down fully, and found no signs of damage on the CPU, north bridge, heatsink, or anywhere on the motherboard. No tell tale burn smells, either.

I've tried clearing CMOS

I've tried booting up everything disconnected from the motherboard except for the RAM, CPU and keyboard, but still no joy.

I've tried using a known working RAM dimm.

I've tried hooking up an external monitor to rule out faulty GPU.

whoops I spoke too early. Pressing F10 after powering on did the trick. Come to think of it, I've experienced this same oddity with a number of HP laptops.

Anyhow this thread mays well be deleted.
