Is a portable version available yet? Googling doesn't find one so far.

Nope not yet. Portable versions usually take 24 hours (more or less) to get updated. ;)

I'm on 3.6.8 myself. Programs that I really depends on I am so sceptical about updating :D

The Beta 3 pre-release can be found here

Turned my PC into full power mode and benchmarked all the browsers. And it doesn't look good.

Note: Used different new profiles for all the firefox versions respectively. Addons and plugings were fully disabled in Firefox. Addons were disabled in Chrome. Firefox beta tests were done twice and the results were relatively the similar in both the occasions.

When the tests were running, from what I saw, Chrome was the fastest. And Firefox Beta 2 seems to be going backwards. :(

Download 4.0 Beta 2for Windows, English

9MB download / 27-77MB* installed

Thank you! :D

Yeah, I'm getting the same feeling. Firefox 3.6.7 was thrown out without proper testing and 3.6.8 didn't even have any bug fixes filed with it. And DKT27's testing showed that Firefox 4.0 Beta 2 is worse than the previous Beta 1 — and far worse than the latest stable Google Chrome or Opera. :o

Don't worry. Minor decline in points doesn't mean a lot. This build has introduced a lot of improvements over the beta 1. And Firefox ain't going to lose too soon. It's the browser experience that keeps Firefox on top in my list. Not the speeds. ;)

For those who wanna run Firefox Stable and Firefox Beta at the same time, read this. :)

@DKT27, my main points were that Firefox 3.6.7 was thrown out the door without proper testing and then Firefox 3.6.8 was quickly released later without any bug fixes filed. :o Very scary. :fear: Performance was my secondary point and at least Firefox 4.0 Beta is better than Firefox 3.6.8 Stable. :)

Wow, thanks for the tip about running Firefox Stable and Firefox Beta at the same time. :D That's why I was using Portable Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 before, but I couldn't run both at the same time. Your link doesn't require Portable Firefox and it allows both Firefox Stable and Firefox Beta to run simultaneously. :D

But from what I've read about Firefox 4.0 Beta 2, a lot of extensions are going to break:

Over at CyberNet, Ryan Wagner ran an interesting post earlier this week about an important change to the Firefox 4b2 internals. The change is part of the Gecko 2.0 engine, and it affects the way XPCOM components are registered by Firefox. While this change is a good thing -- it'll help with multithreading and (hopefully) no-restart extension installs -- it's going to cripple a lot of extensions.

I told you, it seems they are too much concentrated on v4. And in your point, it's their mistake and it's up to them to consider whats right. ;)

I know it would help a lot. I was going to post it before but forgot. But thank News Bot for it.

I did notice that I didn't needed a restart when enabling/disabling the addons. Lets see how it goes.

Just wait for Firefox Jetpack extensions to arrive. I heard it'll bring a lot of improvements over the addons side.

Let's all hope that developers are starting to update their plugins for FF4 Final.
