Overclocking my intel dual core e5200.

Hello guys ! I hope it s a right place for topic . I want to overclock my intel dual core e5200 @ 2.50 GHz , I am unfamiliar with overcloking , dont know anything about it , how to overclock my cpu , and what is the safe limit for overcloking, i was searching somethin about it on google but I more trust to nsane members , any suggestion would be helpful . And also i would to overclok my graphic card which is ASUS VW223 @ 1680x1050 1024MB ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series (ASUStek Computer Inc) >>> info by piriform Speccy, I lost my box of video card , i think that on box was written ATI radeon HD 3650 Silent ( not sure 100% ) , anyway if u can suggest me some tools or some surgery operation for this if it s needed , I am open for any advice.

Well, overclock can be tricky. You need to go to BIOS and see if your motherboard have overclock abilities. I have Asus, so I'm not familiar with Gigabyte. Big problem can be cooling. I managed to overclock my CPU from 2.2 to 2.6 GHz with minimal temperature raise. I just raised core speed, which was 200 to 237. My multiplier is 11, so 237*11 = ~2600. I also needed to set my RAM to 667, since this is my RAM frequency, because my motherboard auto setting always chosen 800 MHz for some reason. And when I overclocked CPU, RAM overclocked automatically.

Now, I would not recommend to overclock your graphic card if it is silent, because there is no way to overcome problem of higher temperature. With CPU, fan will raise its speed to some level.

You should be able to overclock your CPU from 2,5 to 2,75-3,0 without any problems, I think.

Do you know how to get into your BIOS?

If you do then make sure to not just 'do stuff' ;) As mara- said, when you overclock your CPU it is possible (happened to me to) that your RAM is also automatically overclocked because your motherboard defines a value by which it will divide the CPU speed (total) or multiply the CPU speed (before multiplier). So when you overclock your CPU you might have to underclock your memory a little or raise the timings.

Could you provide us with the exact specifications of your memory (as in a product details page, or something)?

shought is right, you can OC your processor to 3.0 GHz ^_^

Just make sure that your rig can keep up, or you'll notice odd things.

If you only had an unlocked multiplier it would be so much better.

Regardless, I recommend you study more about overclocking.

I have 3 slots of 1gb of this kingston RAM . And on memory tab in cpu-z there s more info which i cant save in report , it s info about Timings , dont know what is that, but there it is if it is needed . Your FSB is 200 Mhz and your multiplier is 12,5. You're multiplier is probably locked so you can't change that, but you can change your FSB.

The FSB will probably influence the RAM speed as well because the RAM speed (400 Mhz) is twice the FSB (and the 'actual' RAM speed is 800 Mhz).

So if you raise the FSB from 200 to 220 your CPU speed will be 2,75 Ghz and your memory will run at 880 Mhz, but your memory is (probably) not capable of doing this so you'll have to adjust the FSB multiplier for the RAM or change the RAM timings.

Have a look in your BIOS and write down/take a picture of all settings you think are relevant, we'll explain you which you need to edit :)

Well, shought, RAM should be capable of little boost. But, one problem can occur, which was my case. In my BIOS I have option to choose which my RAM is. I have option Auto, then DDR2 800MHz, and DDR2 667MHz. Now, first time I overclocked, I left on Auto, which for some reason choose 800MHz frequency, and my RAM was 667. After I choose correct option, RAM was overclocked fine. My original FSB was 200, now it's 237. So, my RAM memory clock was 320, and now it's 395. I got nice boost and temperatures are stable.

It would be best, as shought suggested, that you take few pictures of your BIOS, so we can check it out.

I was very busy last 2 days , totally forgot on this topic , here s screen shots of my bios settings , 30sh8bd.jpg ( 1st part ) , and second one 8xkkm8.jpg. and adittiional info , when i expand sytem memory multiplier i can see on right side of screen , System Memory Frequency by DRAM SPD data and values 800,1066,1033 , and PCI express frequency is auto ( value 100 ) i can change it up to 150 . If i missed somethin or maybe if u need system voltage info values tell me .

Hey guys i totaly forgot on this topic.. I think that shought was on holiday and mara was busy at that moment and also I was busy and i forgot on it so topic died.. :( . Could you help me to work this out now ? :) I have exactly same PC at this moment.

We can start with a slight overclock to 3 ghz:

1: Sett "cpu host clock controll" to Enable

2: Sett "cpu host frequency (mhz) to 240

3: Sett "Pci express freguency" to 100 (never ever go over 101)

4: Sett "Cpu votlage contol" to from 1.15v up to max 1.25v

5: Sett "DDR2 overvolt controll" to what your memory is specified for (i think you say it was 1.8v)

6: Sett "fsp overvolt control" to 1.2

7: Sett your memory to as close to 800mhz you can.

8 And you POSSIBLY need to disable "performence Enhance"

Now boot into Windows and download:

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ (to see your temp)

http://www.softpedia...lBurnTest.shtml (to stress your cpu to the max)

Open coretemp, and run 5 rounds of intel burn test (if your temp go over 75c then cancelled it)

Edit: Disable "robust graphics booster"

Edit 2: When overclocking your cpu/memory the computer may die and not start do not panic, this is usually resolved by clearing cmos (this is done by moving a jumper on your motherboard (see your manual for Clear CMOS)
