Thanks for the update. :)

Please note that this isn't pre-release beta released earlier but instead a normal beta released today. ^_^

I got all confused after installing it. Not much of the trusted 3.6 version GUI to be seen. Looked more like Chrome and Opera.

That's what some people want. :P

Does it overwrite the current 3.6 installation? Have downloaded it but need a confirmation.

No, doesn't overrite current firefox install.

Thanks for that.

Installing it now ;)

(Nope, I'm not DKT, but I was asking myself this an then I read your post, so :D)

Edit: first response:

WHEREZ ALL MY BUTTONZ??? :fear:

I can't even close Firefox without opening a menu to do so... :(

Edit 2: it does uninstall really fast

Well, we have that GUI. And it looks fantastic.

Want to know the trick? :P

Firefox v3.6.6 or any other can not coexist on same system with v4.0 Beta 1. They use same setting and that's why it looks messed up. You can create new profile, and chose one when using v3.6.6 and other with v.4.0.

@shought

I'm disappointed. I thought you will figure this out. :P :D

Cheers ;)

The only reason I don't like using betas cause they kill the fun when we get the final. But if this one is going to be good after installation, I'm thinking about sticking with it.

Hehe, had I tried, I might've figured it out...

But I installed it, looked at it and was like: AAAAAH, and then uninstalled it :P

I won't be 'actually' using it before it goes final anyways ;)

Uhuh, I know, you were joking :P But still :D

My little review:

Good:

*A little faster

*UI is nice

*Pressing 'back' is much quicker.

*Some addons like WOT, Adblock, Lastpass work.

*I've used it for a few hours on maybe 30 different websites and no problems so far.

Bad:

*Cold start-up time is too slow like before.

*The 'Firefox Button' takes up a whole line of space for just one button!

*Still not close to the speed of Chrome/Opera.

*Memory use is much higher, CPU about the same.

*I don't like the tabs on top, 1.it takes longer to navigate to it 2. the tabs on top are darkened so sometimes you forget you've got them open!

Overall:

I'm sticking to it, the only addon I really need and isn't working is Speed Dial, which is a price I'm willing to pay.

I haven't tried Firefox 4.0 Beta 1, but I read this: Remove Firefox 4.0's big, ugly, unmovable orange button.

The new default is taps on top, but Mozilla says 'This is a preference that users can change by right clicking on any of their toolbars.'

I'll be sure to boomark this for when I start using it.

Sometimes I can't understand designers :P

I downloaded the portable version.

It's not bad at all. I think the UI has improved, and it's pretty stable for a beta.

But I still don't see any reasons to use it over Opera. IMO Opera is still faster then firefox 4.0 beta. At least, that's how it feels.

So I noticed a minor bug, addons which have an icon next to the home etc buttons have a greyish border around them to match the look of the default buttons. But when I opened Firefox just now the border was missing for Lastpass but present for WOT, a UI glitch but nothing major.

Oh and I have put the tabs 'under' which I forgot to mention.

Firefox is the Web Browser to all IBM computers from now on ( 400.000 units ). Question : Why not Opera instead of Firefox ? :)

Please guys, lets not make this into a "My browser is better than your browser" topic ;)

We all know that the WorldWideWeb browser is by far the best tool out there.

I installed the portable version of Firefox 4.0 Beta 1, and so far I like it. :D This portable version and my regular Firefox 3.6.6 are in separate folders, but unfortunately I cannot run both at the same time (if portable 4.0 Beta 1 is running and I try to start the regular 3.6.6 version, another portable 4.0 Beta 1 window appears instead).

The guide to removing Firefox's big orange button (that I posted earlier here) still works with the portable version:

Simply navigate to FirefoxPortableTest > Data > Profile > chrome and dump userChrome.css in there.

Source (I was thinking of trying it, but I'm  so tired  right now. ) I don't understand why they're wasting so much vertical space with this orange Firefox button. OK, I just sent them feedback about this.

Oh, if you don't like the Feedback button, then just get rid of the Firefox 4 Feedback button!

I see that Firefox has taskbar previews working now in Windows 7 (just like Internet Explorer 8 ). I like the circle filling up where the favicon should be in the tab when a web page is loading.

Must sleep.

One big thing I keep noticing with Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 is that if you download a file (and it doesn't get intercepted with Internet Download Manager for some reason), the file you get will preserve the original date and time stamp — not the time and date of your download as was done with Firefox 3.6.6 and earlier. This happened to me with the Java Runtime Environment 6.0 Update 21 and even downloading some screenshots from here at nsane. I couldn't find my files until I scrolled down (way down) to find them. :o
