Windows 11 Desktop

I got to use computer from a relative. They have a MS account and they gave me their login for the computer and it's a Windows 11 upgraded from a Windows 10 so it is a HP pavilion desktop 595-P 000 84 desktop. It had originally Windows 10 on it and it was upgraded to Windows 11. The upgrade was the upgrade that was free at the time so it must have those special TPM chips inside.  To my surprise I found the C drive is completely full and is in the red so I figured I would just reimage the computer but if I reimage it I'd like to know is there a way for me to be able to keep the windows 11 and not be registered in a Microsoft account? I did run Belarc Advisor and I did get the software License.

How do I go about the reimage?

@BuzzmeI imagine its a digital license linked to that MS account, you can reset Windows or make a clean installation, and since that is not your account, just activate it with MAS and link it to your own MS account.

if you want to avoid a microsoft account do a clean install offline and register with local account.

If needed reactivate using MAS

I did create a local admin account for myself on it with their log in. I found that the D drive has 800gb free space and the C drive is in the RED.

Try resetting Windows 11 through your system settings to free up disk space in your C drive. This is by far the easiest method to reinstall Windows while preserving your personal files.

a) Press the Windows Logo + I key to open Windows System

b) Click on "Recovery" and under "Recovery options", hit the "Reset PC" button

c) In the "Choose an option" dialog box, click on "Keep my files (Removes apps and settings, but keeps your personal files) option

d) If prompted, select "Cloud download". This will download the fresh system files directly from Microsoft servers and reinstalls the operating system

e) Follow the on-screen instructions and let your system restart and complete the resetting process

I hope this helps.

Regards.

@Buzzme The offer to update Windows 10 to Windows 11 for free uses the called Digital Activation and is not "locked" with the Microsoft Account but with the machine Hardware ID that is registered on the Microsoft servers.

Reinstalling the Same Windows 11 Edition (Home/Pro) on the same machine will automatically activate Windows by contacting the Microsoft activation servers without you doing nothing.

The use of the linked Microsoft Account would be needed when installing Windows on a different computer of after an Hardware change, in that case the activation servers would not recognize the machine and need to reauthorize the license based on account.
