network and sharing problem

just updated my kids computer to este ess 4.2... mine is 4.0.467. both with box. have mine and his set on sharing

in the network and sharing part i have on both network as private, network discovery on, file sharing on and public folder sharing on. now the problem is a have passowrd protected sharing turn off. i want it off. but when i access the other computer's it asks for the account and password. i really dont want to make it remember it since it shouldnt be assing me it to begin with.

am i doing something wrong or something else at work here?

Something is not configured correctly. Public sharing folders should not ask for password. try to run the file sharing wizard on all the machines to reconfigure them. Check if you find a guide online. Make sure ESS isn't blocking the public file sharing.

Also if it is asking for ACCOUNT and PASSWORD.. your looking at another issue that would between the configuration of the shared files you have in the Administrative Account or from the account in which your trying to share.. I would be willing to bet that if you typed in your Admin Account name and Password.. it would go through from theirs...

I think this could simply be in the configuration of the share and/or location of the share itself.. as well a LSP.. Ownership/Rights...

both account names are the same at the moment and admin rights. i did the acount and password and it worked. of course i dont want to be typing the account and password nor have it remember. hmmm gong to turn both ess off and use the windows firewall and test it first.
