ilcorsaro73
Good evening, perhaps an expert can help me? I have a desktop PC with Windows 11 and I'm trying to update Adobe Acrobat Pro 2025 v25.1.20623 x64 to v.25.1.20630. I then launched the AcrobatDCx64Upd2500120630.msp file (which cannot be run as an administrator) and suddenly the Windows installation wizard stopped with the following error message: "Adobe Acrobat (Continuous) - Installation Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Adobe\AcrobatDC\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenuShim64.dll. Make sure you have permission to access this directory." I've already tried temporarily disabling my Norton 360 antivirus, installing TakeOwnership to gain full access rights, and using it on the ContextMenuShim64.dll file, temporarily renaming the file in question, but I can't update. I've tried completely uninstalling Adobe Acrobat Continuous x64 using AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2021, restarting my PC, and first reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Pro 2025 v25.1.20623 x64, then reinstalling the AcrobatDCx64Upd2500120630.msp update. But nothing. The update always stops with the error message Adobe Acrobat (Continuous) - Installing. Write error in file C:\Program Files\Adobe\AcrobatDC\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenuShim64.dll. Make sure you have access rights to the directory. I can only update from cmd with the msiexec /update command. What can I do to resolve the issue with future updates? THANKS IN ADVANCE
MrZeb
Hi, Try to update by running msiexec from the command prompt as Administrator msiexec /p AcrobatDCx64Upd2500120630.msp

0veR
Could also be Defender ASR even if you have Norton this thing still runs in the background. When you get error check the security logs in Windows Security app see is shows like "Protected folder or file access is blocked" if it is then you need to lower your ASR protection aggression to low or medium. MrZeb
I don't know if this some Adobe error on the update file or not! If the problem continues on new updates and only your machine is affected then remove Acrobat completely using AcroCleaner

I tried to temporarily disable Norton and from the Windows Security dashboard, controlled folder access is disabled because real-time protection is disabled. 6 minutes ago, MrZeb said: I don't know if this some Adobe error on the update file or not! MISSYOU
To ensure a clean and interference-free environment, I recommend running both AGS Cleaner and AcroCleaner in Windows Safe Mode with administrator privileges. This minimizes the impact of background services, including security software that might lock or protect certain system files during normal operation. I have already tried to temporarily deactivate Norton 360 to use TakeOwnership and to use the ContextMenuShim64.dll file to acquire full access rights on the file in question to check if the ContextMenuShim64.dll file had the "read-only" attribute to temporarily rename it at the end to continue with the installation but I can not perform the update with the Windows installer... then I tried to completely uninstall Adobe Acrobat Continuos x64 to use AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2021 restart the PC and reinstall the Adobe Acrobat Pro 2025 v25.1.20623 x64 program and then the AcrobatDCx64Upd2500120672.msp msp update again by double-clicking on it but nothing the update always stops with the error message I then tried again to completely uninstall Adobe Acrobat Pro 2025 v25.1.20630 to run Adobe cleaner 2021, I performed a deep clean with cleanmgr 1.50.1300, completely lowered the UAC protection level, ran killem -all, deactivated Norton 360, and updated to Adobe Acrobat Pro DC version 2025.001.20672. I then ran the command from the cmd as administrator: icacls "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Acrobat Elements" /grant Administrators:F /T but nothing worked, I still get the same error message. Where can I download
