Karlston
Microsoft is no longer selling movies and TV shows. The company published a new support document with a notification that users can no longer purchase digital content across its stores on the Microsoft website or Windows and Xbox apps. Here is what the notification says: Important: Microsoft no longer offers new entertainment content for purchase, including movies and TV shows, on Microsoft.com, Microsoft Store on Windows, and the Microsoft Store on Xbox. However, you can continue to access your purchased content in the Movies & TV app on Xbox or Windows device. Fortunately, your purchased content remains and will remain accessible. In an FAQ section, Microsoft answered several questions about the shutdown. You can play the movies and TV shows you own using the Movies and TV app on Windows PCs and Xbox consoles. While there is no option to move purchased content to another platform, users in the United States can move select movies and shows with the Movies Anywhere program. As for refunds, Microsoft is not going to give money back for any recently purchased content, as its terms of sale do not allow movie refunds. Still, considering the content you own remains available for playback, the chances of people rioting because of the store going down are rather slim. Now, with the Movies and TV store shut down for good, Microsoft is officially out of the streaming industry. Eight years ago, Microsoft killed its Groove Music streaming service (once Xbox Music), and now, the company is taking down its movie store. For those wanting to watch content on their PCs and Xbox consoles, Microsoft recommends using third-party services like Prime Video, Apple TV, Netflix, and others. You can learn more about the shutdown on the official Microsoft support page. Let us know in the comments if you'll miss Microsoft's service, or didn't use it much.
