my Q9550 could be overclocked to 3.2 or even to 3.8 but it's so much of a risk

since it's already generating huge mass of heat

i can tell u of a quick tool u can overclock ur CPU with ease

using easytune utility which comes with the mobo CD

u can give it a try

Yea Easytune that comes with Gigabyte motherboard is nice. The other way is to enter the BIOS and overclock. Make sure you have good cooling. Overclocking it to 3.2GHz would be quite nice if you ask me.

@dcs18:

I believe there's only one reason for OC: to squeeze more out of a PC ^_^

Although with his current configuration, he doesn't even need to OC.

ya, OC produces more heat, and more power consume, maybe risk of messing up your hardware parts as for the cons

and 3.00gh x4 core? i don't think that's necessary to OC it.

but

good luck =)!

Yeah, that's you, me & most others. ^_^

Wondering whether 'fashion' is emerging as another reason.

Why would one wants to overclock from 3.00Hz to just 3.2 or even 3.8 and risk frying the mobo?

Too much money??

Be careful though.....enjoy!
