underpressure
Hello. A sure way of getting subtitles streamed with the video for me was UPNP (DLNA). If your tv has chomecast it will work with a UPNP App (UPNP Renderer), and there are TV's that support it natively. It has been a long time since i used to stream to tv's and they changed so much thanks to android/google tv etc. But every application that can Transcode or Remux the video with the subtitles embedded in the container should work. For Chromecast i'm not sure but you can test something like Go-Chromecast with the transcode command. Go-Chromecast: https://github.com/vishen/go-chromecast For UPNP you can try Universal Media Renderer: https://www.universalmediaserver.com/ https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer/UniversalMediaServer Universal Media Renderer being the Server where you have your movie files to stream, Then the TV being the Renderer with native support from the TV, or with some app: https://bubblesoftapps.com/bubbleupnp/ / https://www.webvideocaster.app/ / MX Player / I think even VLC can search inside UPNP Servers. These apps on your phone can also be remote control. You search what file you want to play from your UPNP Server, and where to play it, your UPNP Renderer. Try to set the server to always Remux instead of Transcode to use less resources and for the best quality. donkey-girl
donkey-girl
All sounds good but this need futher investegation reading, I really feel Videostream https://getvideostream.com/ Very easy to come around with even its very much outdated Discontinued "End of Life program with no new updates it still works as it should also with shown subtitles so I guess its not worth to use more time finding an app doing the same and very easy click and play. underpressure
Very true, and understandable.. I have read so many people saying "In the end I just bought a longer HDMI cable.. Problem solved!!!" You could also try wireless hdmi I started trying to stream to my TV before chromecast was so widespread.. the tv i bought at the time only had UPNP. Always getting into some trouble with codec support, container support, subtitles, live streams etc etc.. With chromecast i often use the Web Video Cast app to open some live streams directly on the tv. It does make it easier for websites full of ads for soccer/football live streams... donkey-girl
donkey-girl
I will keep this topic open until a better and easy solution is found.
underpressure
I searched a bit... looks like chromecast only supports WebVTT subtitles, not SRT. Save your srt files as webvtt in a subtitle editor and try vlc again... https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit https://sourceforge.net/projects/subtitle-workshop-classic/ donkey-girl

underpressure
Never even thought of Jellyfin... or that it had an app... Good thing you found a good and working alternative. You tried Kodi? It gets videos/movies to its library from windows shared folders.
