vin3e
Is it possible to use proxies for sites like rapidshare etc? Because since im at Uni, the ipconfig /release renew and flushdns do not work, i always end up with the same IP.Now its torturing enough to make do without torrents, but do you think this go againsts university net rules? I dont want to take risks, but i want to give it a go.Thanks for any help.
Zeus_Hunt
If you change ur computer name you will get a new ipaddress from the DHCP sever after the restart. But I think rapidshare may be registering ur universities proxy severs ipaddress which cannot be changed.. vin3e
Change my PC name :o Is it as simple as going to systems and putting in a new random name like "udf89weudfio" > Apply. Restart = new IP?
Administrator Lite Posted October 24, 2006 Administrator Share Posted October 24, 2006 I'll assume your on a residence network? If so i don't think you will be able to change your IP. These systems usually allocate IP by Mac Address/ Room.
Zeus_Hunt
I was unfortunaly wrong on this...Changing computer name does not change the ipaddressMAC address to the deciding factor..(along with computer name)Your MAC address is associated to ur IPaddress(primary association, computer name...seconday association)So as long as u have the same NIC card u will have the same IPaddressunless DHCP server decides to referesh the IPs..
