elohelomg
So, i wanted to create a work group so i can share a few hard drives since i work from both my laptop and PC. I went to to change the name of hte work group, and its greyed out. The network ID button is gone, and the work group name is stuck on work group. The client for microsoft networks is there, and yes, i do have internet access. any ideas?
shought
Assuming this is XP.Can't change the workgroup name1. Make sure you logon as administrator.2. If you are the member of administrators, but can't change the workgroup name (the Network ID and Workgroup are gray out), make sure you have installed the Client For Microsoft Networks. LeetPirate
Also be sure to check in network connections for the network setup wizard, that's the easiest way to configure the workgroup.
Hottwire
Also make sure that none of these changes are blocked by group policy, that can stop you from making rather wide system changes, although not a lot of people would set this though. Just thought i'd point it out though.
Administrator DKT27 Posted April 19, 2010 Administrator Share Posted April 19, 2010 I remember I had this problem. Also, my Windows Firewall options were grayed out. I wrote for help to M$. Instead of emailing me, they called me by phone. After a few calls, the guy told me that it's because I don't have a genuine xp and WGA may have done it. And yes he did say that later sentence(about WGA doing so).
