Microsoft finalizes Office 2010

Microsoft said Friday that it has wrapped up development work on the next version of the Office family, including Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010.

The products were "released to manufacturing," which is the final engineering step. The products are slated to be available for businesses next month and Microsoft is holding a launch event on May 12 in New York.

"RTM is the final engineering milestone of a product release and our engineering team has poured their heart and soul into reaching this milestone," vice president Takeshi Numoto said in a blog posting. "It is also an appropriate time to re-emphasize our sincere gratitude to the more than 5,000 organizations and partners who have worked with us on rapid deployment and testing of the products."

The Office suite, in all its many flavors, will hit store shelves in June and Microsoft is planning a separate Gotham event to mark that occasion. Microsoft is also taking preorders for Office on its online store. Already Microsoft has been promising those buying Office 2007 a free upgrade to Office 2010.

Redmond is also planning to allow PC makers to load a slimmed down Office Starter that users will get for free on new computers.

Among the biggest changes in the new version of Office is the fact that Microsoft will release separate browser-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Businesses will be able to host the Office Web Apps on a SharePoint server, while consumers will be able to get free access as part of Windows Live.

On the desktop side, Microsoft is adding the first 64-bit version of Office as well as other changes including video editing in PowerPoint, photo editing in Word, and an improved "paste preview" function.

Microsoft noted Friday that more than 7.5 million people have been using the beta version of Office 2010.

That explains why when I tried to upgrade the other day.. it kept asking for a number and everything I threw at it just got rejected.. ad i am not sing the thing that starts to drop TMP files that get tagged as trojans either..

Thanks, but I think those fixes aren't fully working according to some other forums. I'll just install the Office 2010 as a trial I'm sure something will pop-up in that time!

Only thing is, it seems Office 2010 32-bit is almost 4GB in size, and even bigger for the 64-bit version! It might be until tomorrow until links on non-torrent sites are available.

Thats because it included several versions of office. I'm thinking about UL it with just Visio, Project Pro, and Pro Plus, for 32 and 64 bit each (this will cut the size down greatly).

The current leak includes EVERY app separate, and MOST suites included. Pro Plus is the most complete suite (there is no Enterprise/ultimate for 2010), and Visio and Project don't get bundled with any suite. Project Pro > Project Standard so no need for Standard.

There is a new KMS activator out for Office 2010, for actually cracking the thing.

PS: To remove versions from the release, delete the .WW Folder for that version, so if I upload, it will have 3 .WW folders, one for pro plus, one for visio, one for project pro. The other folders are stuff common to every version that shouldn't be screwed with.

This makes a huge difference, I once made an AIO Office 2007 (I even included Basic, which I never saw in any other AIO, and it wouldn't fit on a DVD, but just Visio, Enterprise, and Project was < 2GB. Also keep in mind that Office 2010 is simply bigger than 2007.

If I wanted to install only Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, I would have to install one of them and then run the installer again to install the others? Oh I see you can still customise after selecting one option, I thought it would just install it. That was the confusing part because I thought they removed the customise bit, the reason being that why would you need to customise if they give you the option of selecting what to install in the first place! I get it now. ^_^

Edit: I did choose the 'customise' in Office 2007, MS should use clearer terms though, 'not available' was a little confusing to me at first a couple of years ago. Why not just call it 'don't install'!!!

Yeah, it's ridiculous that they cram all those suites and apps into one ISO. I guess the purpose is since it goes to VL customers to let them install and pay for whatever they want.

If you want to slim things down by removing the multiple apps/suites, delete the *.WW folders for anything you don't want. I'd personally get rid of all of them except for Pro Plus, Visio, and Project Pro's WW folders.

You save lots of space in the ISO, and when you run the setup it will show Pro Plus, Visio, and Project Pro only.
