Help with reversing date detection on an autorun exe created with Auto Play Media Studio

Hi All,

 

I was wondering if anybody can help me reverse an autorun exe created with Auto Play Media Studio v7?

It is for a really old CD i need, the app checks the date and if after november 2014 when clicking a button thats needed its shows an error screen and then closes.

 

I have tried wth x32dbg but could find no strings relating to the messagebox or the button unless its clicked, but then it will close so any changes i tried to make never saved in x32dbg. After some trial and error I found the function (GetDate) then jumped over it but this just creates a different error. The exe is not protected and should be pretty simple to an experienced reverser. Im clearly not using x32dbg to its full potential. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anybody is interested i will upload the iso image. (its only one exe that needs patching very small filesize but doersnt open correctly without the files needed).

Don't use the Autorun.exe, use the rest files! You have access to all of them! Just check the temporary folder and consume the content.

Yeah i know you can do that but the exe was nice it lays it all out easy to navigate. The CD is actually my fathers so theres no way hes going to understand how to go finding what he needs via folder lol (hes too old).

 

I can also use runasdate by nirsoft and it works but i have to make sure he always opens the right shortcut and sometimes he forgets and then uses the main exe. So patching it would be most useful
