Hello, I am new to the technology world
I have a very old PC
Maybe there is a diagnostic program that shows what is needed to make the PC work optimally (free, so maybe there is one)

Use a Linux Distro (Distrowatch.com).

My personal recommendation is "Bodhi Linux" or Linux Mint.

No need for a "diagnostic" program. Simply put your hardware is old and not very fast in the first place. I had a i7 960 that I replaced with a ryzen 5 and the performance is off the charts compared to my old PC.

The only thing you can do is add more ram and remove resource hungry apps.

And switching OS won't help either. It's a hardware matter. Too old too under performing.

win 7.. max for that pc.. with 7.88gb i would say onboard graphics as its using 256mb of the memory for that..

but it all depends on what the computer came with in the first place..

win xp possible maybe even win98.. or win ME, 2000, or NT.

the simplest way to get it to run fast.. a fresh reinstall..

most computers back in the day came with a recovery cd which is a image of the drive as it was when it came out of the factory..

NOTE: this if used would delete all and any user data as it would format the drive..

trying to run a modern windows 11 64bit hog on old system.. would cause many issues. overheating etc.
