A critically endangered baby Coquerel’s sifaka, also known as a “dancing lemur”, has made its first public appearance at Chester Zoo.

The new arrival was born on 21 September, to parents Beatrice, 11, and Elliot, 10, following a five-month pregnancy. Keepers have not yet ascertained its sex.

The species is only found on Madagascar and is at risk due to widespread deforestation.
