So I personally dont use the edonkey client myself, however I was at the slyck forum and a lot of people were complaining that their edonkey program wont connect and trys to uninstall itself. And going to www.edonkey.com gets a "The eDonkey2000 Network is no longer available" message. www.edonkey2000.com gets you nowhere too. Any thoughts??

One work arounds people found was to block the edonkey websites in your HOSTS file. Another one is install and start edonkey while you are disconnected from the net and then reconnect after the program is running.

Or you can just switch to emule. With the new protocall encryption, its definatly the way to go.

If anyone still wants to use eDonkey there is a fix for all versions old and new up to v1.4.6

forum post here: Link to eDonkey Fix information

on that forum is only ed2k links for the fix, but here on this forum you can get a direct download to the fix

forum Link to a direct download and info

just incase the posts are not available, the fix is simple

all ya gotta do is add some entries to the windows Hosts file

the hosts file is located ( c:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\hosts )

and win98 (c:\windows\hosts)

open the Hosts, with notepad and add these lines

but first right click Hosts and check if it aint set to read-only, if it is then untick it.

so open Hosts with notepad and add these

66.94.229.254 home.edonkey.com

127.0.0.1 sda.edonkey.com

for older overnet clients like v0.53 and below add this one

66.94.229.254 home.overnet.com

now click file/save. then Set Hosts back to Read-Only

This Is Important Setting It Back to Read-Only, cos edonkey deletes the line sda.edonkey.com

sneakey hey, if you have problems editing the hosts file some antivirus or antspyware applications can protect the hosts file,
